BWeaves, I remember when you were weaving your beautiful shawl; you wear it so well!

    Are these dyed?

Tiger, such pretty pearls and excellent luster! I agree, Akoya for sure, I keep coming back to look at the color and wondering if the pearls have been irradiated (a harmless process) to deepen the color. That could explain the dark nucleus. The first blue Akoya I ever saw had been purchased...

Mabe I can tell if they are real

Yes, Osmena, I agree with BWeaves. I haven't seen the drop shape before. Usually there are fine "ripple" lines on the tops that may show in person but perhaps don't show in these photos. Do you know if these are vintage?

How to arrange these vintage pearls?

What a fun project! Laying the pearls out on a beadboard will help you figure how many inches of pearls you have. I agree a tin cup would be fun and likely you'd have enough for earrings and maybe a bracelet.

Multi-Strand (3 or more) Necklace Challenge!

Sorry to be late to the discussion! Lots of good ideas here! You might even prefer the finished necklace on designer wire over thread. The button/flat pearls don't offer much flexibility stacked together. Perhaps a small seed bead every so often (every 10?) would give flexibility and add a...

Need help identifying/valuing an unusual pearl please.

Danny, thanks for sharing such an unusual pearl. If worn as a pendant, this pearl would make quite the conversation piece.

    Restringing jade

Excellent suggestions for measuring drill hole size, Pearl Dreams, MMtwo and Starry Pearl! I'll have to dig out my drill bits, which are seldom used. I've been using a tapered darning needle and a high quality digital gauge to measure drill holes. How exciting to think there are more...

    Help

This ring appears to be sterling silver, similar to what I've seen previously from Bali. Some of the work on this ring appears quite rustic. As has been mentioned before, most pearls are cultured, natural pearls are rare. This looks like a freshwater button shape pearl.

    Restringing jade

What awesome news about your gorgeous jade beads, MMtwo! What does Mason Kay charge for the evaluation? I'm stringing jade today, doubled size 20 isn't quite thick enough, so will add a 3rd thread same color, size 30, strung through all the beads before starting the actual knotting and...

Did I buy a fake Mikimoto necklace?

Only Mikimoto will be able to authenticate the necklace. Do the pearls have high luster and few blemishes to your eyes? I'd take the necklace to a jewelry store that sells high quality pearls and compare them. In searching online I found several 60's vintage Miki necklaces with clasps that had...

Did I buy a fake Mikimoto necklace?

Welcome to the forum, parismom. It's very difficult to evaluate the quality of the pearls from your photos because of the black fabric. Please retake the photos on a paper towel. Is it possible the markings on the back of the clasp are WG K14?
