Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

Your reading is right. Officially the term is restricted to saltwater pearls, which is why we'll sometimes see "keshi-like" used with freshwater pearls. But you're also right that it seems to have gone out the window. The process can be very similar - a bead is rejected and the sac grows a...

Pearl trip to Japan - recommendations please!

If you're going to be in Kobe, you'll be close to Kyoto. That's a must-see, but I imagine it's already on your itinerary. You won't be far from Nara either. Nara is quite an experience, as long as you're not afraid of deer :) They won't be afraid of you! Takahashi Pearl has a lot of Tahitians...

    Are they of any value?

This is a circled strand of freshwater pearls, which aren't tremendously valuable. There is a similar 64-inch strand on eBay for $295.

    Eureka, Elizabeth Strack's Pearls

It's the best pearl book out there, IMO. It has become a bit outdated though. A lot has happened in the past 25 years since it was published. I did hear that Elisabeth Strack was considering an updated version, but I don't know for sure if that's going to happen.
