HELP. The bead inside the pearl is loose!!!

I fear it may be a lost cause for that pearl. Can you do without it in the necklace? Or substitute another pearl? If you are nearly halfway through, it was probably close to being a center pearl. Can you rearrange the pearls that are left and find one that can take its place in the strand...

    2 necklaces for identification please.

The necklaces are akoyas-- one round and graduated, the other baroque. Unfortunately a few pearls in the round necklace have lost some of their nacre and the bead is exposed. This can happen with time and wear and happens more often when the nacre is thin. If the necklace is restrung to be...

The Secret Life of Akoya: 10 Days Inside Japan’s Protected Pearl World

@jhai004, They are akoyas but their condition is not good. A number of them appear to be worn down right to the bead nucleus, with little to no nacre remaining. It looks like there may also be a buildup of grime on them that makes it hard to tell their condition or luster. I do not think...

Why is it so hard to find a long necklace of Golden South Sea Keshis?

I understand that after Xraying, if no bead was visible inside the pearl, they would re-nucleate it. Because round pearls bring more money, and round SSP bring lots more money! Well...it is a business, after all. Can't blame the farmers.

    Identify Please

No, the strand in the middle is the FW one. The ones on the left are baroque Tahitians from Rikitea. The ones on the far right are near-round Tahitians and not circlé.

Yes, they are. But not all dyed FWP look the same. Look-- if you didn't pay Tahitian prices for your necklace, there is nothing to be unhappy about. It's a pretty necklace.

No-- they are not Tahitians. No doubt about it. It is normal for even dyed pearls to differ in all those ways. Pearls evidently interest you-- would like to learn more about them? There is a great course by the Pearl Association of America called "Pearls As One" -- here is the link, and I...

    Cultured or wild?

Cultured dyed freshwaters from China. Tissue nucleated-- no bead inside.
