    Are my pearls worth anything?

OK. It's 11:20 pm here so if I don't reply tonight I will tomorrow morning.

    Are my pearls worth anything?

@tjjohnson1196, This thread took a different direction with another poster, and you still haven't gotten an answer about your inherited pearls. Repeating my earlier post: Please post some photos, on a white background (paper towel is fine), clear and in focus, no flash. Show us the entire...

    Are my pearls worth anything?

Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm afraid you would not get much for the pearls, if they sold at all. Pre-owned pearls don't hold their value and off-round freshwaters in particular don't because there are so many out there. My advice for quick cash is to sell any gold you can spare. Or...

    Are my pearls worth anything?

They are Chinese freshwater pearls, not high value. If you like them, buy them, but don't spend a lot. The first few posts of new members have to be manually approved because of all the spam posts the forum gets. And we are volunteers, and not online all the time. :) Sorry you had to wait, but...

Pearls purchase - UK or import?

One more thought: have her try on a 7.5-8.0mm strand somewhere. Any strand, any store, just to see the size on her neck. For me that is a bit on the small side but she may love it. (It is classic size but may not flatter everyone.) Pearl prices take a big jump at 8mm because akoyas are small...

Pearls purchase - UK or import?

Well then go for it :)-- and don't be surprised if more pearl purchases follow. Pearls are addictive! After all, celebrations and holidays all continue to come along. ;)

Pearls purchase - UK or import?

Cheating? I have a ton of pearls but the one thing I have not bought (new) is round akoyas (I do have a few vintage/graduated akoyas, bought pre-owned). I have white and fancy colored FW, baroque SS, baroque GSS, Tahitians, baroque akoyas and various pendants and earrings. But the price of...

Pearls purchase - UK or import?

From all that it does sound to me like PP might be the way to go. I would be remiss not to make another suggestion. Given that she only would wear them a few times per year, might it be a good idea to consider getting top quality freshwater pearls instead? Edisons, maybe? These are bead...

Pearls purchase - UK or import?

Akoyas have become more scarce and thus more expensive because of mortality of the oysters, for various reasons. Here is a thought-- are you certain she would prefer akoyas vs. Tahitians, south sea pearls or golden south sea pearls? And round vs. baroque? Is she being consulted, or is this to...

I edited that post a few times so please reread it.

Pearls purchase - UK or import?

It sounds like you've thought this through well. Here are a few more things to consider: Sooner or later the strand will need to be restrung. Strands worn often may need to be restrung as often as yearly. (The thread catches skin oils and cells, pollution and grime generally, and this dirties...

Do be careful lining the boot with anything. Even small folds can cause pressure sores.

    Are my pearls worth anything?

Please post some photos, on a white background (paper towel is fine), clear and in focus, no flash. Show us the entire stand and some closeups, including any flaws you see, especially around the drill holes. Also try this simple test: rub 2 of the pearls together gently. Real pearls will...

I’m pretty sure these are real. I bought these for a costume at an antique store but they were labeled “fake”….however I’m not convinced they are.

I agree, and while there are now bead nucleated freshwater pearls, yours look to me like tissue nucleated (no bead inside), therefore they are solid nacre. :) Solid nacre FWP are becoming scarcer as the Chinese farmers are now bead nucleating virtually all FWP.

Yes, I believe you have a strand of freshwater pearls. You got a very good deal! You didn't post a photo of the bracelet. Do the pearls look the same, have the same clasp /same clasp markings? If so they may have been sold as a set originally. They could do with a bath and restringing. It's...

Gumballs. That is what large white round SSP look like to me.

No-- they're baroques. I actually prefer baroque shapes in SSP (fortunately for my wallet) -- I find them more interesting. They're 10-12.5mm and strung on wire with silicone bead bumpers in between the pearls, and have a hidden clasp. This is my one of my most comfortable necklaces. (Clasps...

IMO that is overkill, in this size. And twice as heavy. Here are my 12.6mm drops, bought from Rolay on Etsy (same vendor as Pearl Society on eBay). I have large ear lobes so I favor larger pearls for earrings. But two, stacked? Too much, even for me.
