The cream color of this vintage Mikimoto momme strand doesn't go with most of my clothes, but I think today it went well with my linen top. It has the cutest little clasp, with a teeny tiny pearl.

They have such nice luster!

1st photo: All freshwater pearls from China. The gray and black ones are dyed. 2nd photo: Also FW from China. A few with tails look like earlier 2nd harvest pearls.

Disineguous description, which I read as Chinese Kasumi-like freshwater pearls.

They look like imitation pearls to me. They are very uniform, the drill holes are large necessitating large knots, and there seems to be some excess pearly coating near some of the drill holes, which one may see in imitation pearls. The bead tips where the thread meets the clasp is also a lower...

Not sure I understand. Wouldn't you have to knot off both ends, then trim the thread?

They could be Tahitians, or they could be dyed FWP. In this photo the middle strand is dyed FWP, and the other two are Tahitians.

My understanding is that Mikimoto does indeed certify their necklaces, provided they come with the original clasp. The service isn't cheap, though. The clasp looks genuine. In your photographs some of the pearls appear not to be entirely round, as they should be. Is this just distortion from...

They look real to me, and akoyas-- some baroque. Lovely variety of overtones.
