A river pearl (I think...give me your two cents!), and a little thrift-store find.

I just received these shimmery beauties from my boyfriend; he sure knows the way to my heart... :) They are the most lustrous little guys that I own! They practically sparkle when I wear them. Also attached, for good measure: a picture of my Pearl Paradise metallic freshwaters, since I don't...

Thanks for the comments and input! I'm quite taken with my little "rosebud" (it is, indeed, a great name for a pearl!).

A river pearl (I think...give me your two cents!), and a little thrift-store find.

Hello! It's been ages since I last posted here, but I thought I might pop in to post about my latest acquisitions! The first piece is what I believe to be a natural river pearl: An elderly friend of the family recently passed away, and I was asked if I wanted anything from her jewelry box. She...

working conditions in the pearl industry

Hm, this stuff about shell waste is interesting, but I am more interested in labor conditions of the people who nucleate, harvest, process, drill, string, etc. What kind of hours do they work, how safe are the conditions, are children ever employed...I am aware that China is rife with workplace...

working conditions in the pearl industry

While having an interesting discussion about the myths and realities surrounding 'blood diamonds', someone asked me about the ethics of pearl farms. Pearl harvesting doesn't seem to be funding any bloody African conflicts (I hope...), but we were wondering about working conditions on farms, and...

    ICPGC - Pearl Guide Ruckus!

I've been MIA for a while now, but really loved looking through all the photos! It is very fun, and a bit inspiring, to watch an online community become a real-world community. It's quite wonderful to see internet friendships blossom off-screen.

hehe yes :) here they are. until inspiration strikes (and until after my exams are done...), the lowly beads are being worn sans clasp, held in place with ribbon. I might try to learn to knot, they can be my practice pearls.

Trying to figure out what I have here.

Welcome to pearl guide! yes, please take another photo or two using the macro mode on your camera, I'd love to get a closer look at the clasp, I adore vintage findings! Regardless, do not put them in a safe deposit box; wear them, even with your jeans :)

    Pattye Visits The Pearl Outlet!

how fun! I am quite jealous of all you pearlgirls who get to go to the pearl meccas out west. so glad you found the clasp before it was too late, what a funny story :) I've pulled such treasures out of the trash after hap-hazard cleaning...one time my dad put my external hard drive in the...

I got my 10-11mm blue-blacks last week. I think they are the same ones that MaryD got (they are a tad darker in person). Big, lovely color, shiny, off-round, not very clean. They are about what I expected, and will make for some fun necklaces.

Shakespeare on pearls & other pearly quotes

A pearl quote I came across yesterday while flipping through A Guide to Elegance, one of those charming and inspiring vintage volumes about how to dress attractively and well: "There is just one piece of jewelry that is equally becoming to everybody, lovely with almost every ensemble...
