That thing is from T. gigas = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_clam "Giant Clams are currently protected by the CITES agreement ? they can no longer be exported without a permit". Harvesting this Clam is now illegal , I would recommend you to stay away from that thing. Best Regards

Thanks for a interesting thread. :) In the near future I will be going on many pearling expeditions and hopefully I will be able to show you many beautiful wild pearls, and yes I will take pictures and document every single pearl and also keep the mollusk / shell the pearl came from.
