Pearls on Skin

I was told by a friend(who said her jeweler told her this: to wear my
pearls directly on my skin, so the pearls stay hydrated-that it will add
to the luster over time picking up the natural oil in my skin. (no
perfume or cosmetics, just skin)
Can you tell me if this is wise/true..? Thank you.

This is abolutely true!
Pearls are organic, and as such, need moisture. If pearls are kept in an airtight environment for a few years the luster will dull, and their value will diminish dramatically. Pearls also soak up oils from the skin which will add to their luster (making it deeper) over time.

the one thing to be extremely careful of, however, is to never spray perfume or hairspray on or around the pearls. This will destroy the pearls.

I would also like to add just for reference that though the natural oils in your skin do add hydration, the perspiration from your skin which contains salt and other toxins can damage the pearls if you do not gently wipe them after wearing them. Salt water has a dehydrating effect.
