Can someone tell me about the pearls in this ring please....

Hello all. I tried to take a photograph of the pearls with a strong back light, but it was quite difficult as I did not have a macro lens. However...I did examine it in all directions and other than the small bits of nacre on the surface that have chipped off due to the prongs I could see...

Can someone tell me about the pearls in this ring please....

Thank you ! I think possibly the best way to shine a light may be through the bottom of the ring. I will try it with some LED lights that I have.

Can someone tell me about the pearls in this ring please....

Thank you so much for some feedback. I was beginning to think I would never get a reply. Here is a link to the necklace and the ring when I posted on this forum first (2008). Since then the unfortunate turn of the economy made me sell it. I had no intention of selling it when I made the post and...

Can someone tell me about the pearls in this ring please....

I looked at the pearls with a loupe and light and noticed that where the nacre had come off at the prong the surface under the nacre was white (as against the yellow tint to the nacre). I wondered if someone can point me to some pictures of what the surface is supposed to look like under the top...

Can someone tell me about the pearls in this ring please....

Added one additional photograph which is more of a close up. One can see where the nacre has been damaged due to the prong. It can't be seen worn of course but it is an old ring after all.....

Can someone tell me about the pearls in this ring please....

Hello I had a natural pearl necklace (tested) which sold to a dealer a few years ago for a considerable sum. I kept a ring that was always worn with it. I am fairly certain that the two are not a set. The pearls are a yellow-white colour. The ring is made of 22k gold (about 5.4 gms) but I don't...

Is there anything like a collectable cultured pearl?

Thank you all for your replies. I am back with a good internet connection now in Christchurch. Tomorrow I fly to Melbourne. I resisted getting a little black pearl pendant for my sister (at NZ$1000 - 11mm teardrop) because I am hoping to find something nice for her birthday in Melbourne. If you...

Is there anything like a collectable cultured pearl?

Hello everyone I am holidaying in NZ and Australia and was reading about Paspaley with much interest. I am thinking of adding a single pearl to the bottom of a broach done in an old Indian style and as a start looked at natural pearls from Bahrain. I think I could find a wonderful and...

Another string of pearls...and a ring

Drilled or not please? Drilled or not please? On contacting a couple of Bahraini sources, I was told that they would be able to find me a few loose natural 10mm to 12mm pearls. At some point I will have to take the necklace over, or have a friend who is there take it, to them to match the...

Another string of pearls...and a ring

If they are set on a prong and are half drilled, and I would need to continue to have them drilled in the same direction, then should I worry that the prongs may have left marks on the two pearls please?

Another string of pearls...and a ring

I just wanted to thank all the members who responded. Thank you all for being so helpful. I was looking at some of the pearls on offer at the upcoming Dubai Christies sale and think I may have to revise my aspirations downwards. Some of the larger natural pearls are hugely expensive. This...

Another string of pearls...and a ring

Hehe! It never actually struck me to extend the necklace with smaller pearls at the end! However, now I am very excited to go scope out some pearls for this quest. It does seem like this may turn out of be quite an expensive affair...or shall I say hobby. My family is in the south of India, and...

Another string of pearls...and a ring

Thank you Thank you You are all very kind. I tried to take some other pics, hope this one helps although my little Sony camera is beginning to struggle I can see even with its macro setting. The lustre does not show up as well with the black background though. I really hope I can find some...

Another string of pearls...and a ring

Hello All This is my first post here. I love jewelry and began to enjoy looking at it when I inherited some antique pieces. I am not in the industry (financial analyst I'm afraid) so please excuse some naive questions or descriptions! I have always loved pearls, and in face when offered a ruby...
