Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

Just catching up, loooove all the photos! What an amazing trip, Jeg! Among other pearls, wearing this thrifted ring (was $30?), it’s sterling set with akoyas and diamonds from Maui Divers

    Cook Islands Pearls

18 mm pearl in the case at Kora Pearls, it’s quite stunning! They had some very large pearls as pendants, a number of 15 mm top quality ones. They own their own farm and the daughter was running the shop when I went in. She said that part of the problem all the farms are having is that the...

    Cook Islands Pearls

My gold pearl studs—I believe they’re pipi pearls!! It would explain why the seller described them as “special pearls from oysters that make gold shells.” The shop I bought them from is known to occasionally carry pipi pearls, and there is currently another set of studs like this in their case...

    Super interesting & tragic Mikimoto

Keep looking on there, I’ve seen several for sale. The pearls met a bad end, like worn with perfume too many times

    Super interesting & tragic Mikimoto

No, the clasp was loose in the box! I have two of these strands. My grandfather brought several over from Japan when he was in the USAF, he said you bought them in pieces like this to avoid the tariffs and had them strung by your jeweler

    Cook Islands Pearls

Thank you! In person they’re even more beautiful. T&S had great selection. I hope your friend has a wonderful trip—snorkeling with the giant clams and turtles has truly been one of the best things I’ve ever done.

    Cook Islands Pearls

Greetings everyone! Sorry I have been MIA. I am currently in the Cook Islands and so I have been buying pearls. I’ve seen over the years that people ask where to buy pearls in the Cook Islands so hopefully this helps! The best is T & S on Aitutaki. Her prices are the best, she hand makes...

    Akoya or South Sea?

The clasp is solid 14k, I have the xrf for it. It’s stamped 585. I’m not sure what stamps you’re seeing, but in person it’s stamped for solid gold and I only buy with stamps plus xrf. It was sold out of Miami as a set of a choker and 2 matching bracelets, I wound up with only one bracelet. Gah.

    Where to buy rare/unusual pearls

If you want to shop in person, I highly recommend the Tucson Gem Show. Ive bought several interesting natural pearls over the years (mostly American but I also have a matched set of wild-found Tahitian pearls), you never know what vendors might have. Kojima even has a booth!

    Akoya or South Sea?

So, I scored this for $25 so it doesn’t really matter what it is. But, I’m curious! They’re 11 mm and almost all of them are very round, one is slightly drop-shaped. They seem to have enough wear to have been someone’s favorite bracelet. My guess was South Sea but what do you guys think?

It helps very much! You hit the perfect balance between too symmetrical and too chaotic. It’s just right!

If you could only have five pieces, what would they be and why?

Heres my 5 for right now, left to right: —multicolor Tahitian strand —vintage Zuni mop & turquoise ring —Tahitian studs —my great-grandmother’s Mikimotos —Akoya studs I bought myself 20 years ago —the first pearl necklace I bought for myself, peach rosebud pearls with teeeeeny keishi on a...

Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

The thrift shop by my house and shopgoodwill. Don’t do it unless you’re ok identifying pearls off a few bad pictures and comfortable with how much you spent and you’re wrong & got a faux strand. Prices on that site will come back down after New Years. I have scored some pretty incredible...

Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

Thank you! The pearl one is a rather large feather pearl I picked up at the Tucson Gem Show years ago that I had made into a ring. It’s so unique! The areas that show up darker in the picture are completely rainbow iridescent. The other ring is my peak millennial wedding ring I just booked...

Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

Thank you! They’ve got nothing on yours but they’re really fun. I’m thinking I should come up with a bracelet that better matches the necklace but the little akoyas are so sweet. Seeing how much you (and everyone else on here) wear your “fancy” pearls really inspires me to wear the ones I...
