    Estate Sale Pearls

As a follow-up, I took at look at the necklace with a loupe (x10). Unlike the Freshamas, which looked smooth, it kind of looked like a little version of the moon (lots of little round craters).

    Estate Sale Pearls

That sounds about right to me as well. Looks like they weren't much of a deal at $25.

    Estate Sale Pearls

I don't think that pattern continues throughout the strand. Another section had 3 potato-shaped, then 1 round, then 2 square-ish.

    Estate Sale Pearls

Unfortunately I already wrapped them. I'll have to give the picture another shot so all the experts on here can weigh in!

    Estate Sale Pearls

I'll try the pencil picture when I get home from work. The holes are fairly small, but I'll have to check on the beveling. The damage doesn't seem to be as much flaking as it looks like dents. In looking at the bead being noticeable near the drill holes, what would it look like?

    Estate Sale Pearls

Hey everyone, A friend of my wife bought a set of pearls for $25 at an estate sale and wanted to know what she got. My wife referring to me as an "expert in pearls" (since I know more than nothing) brought them home for me to look at. I'm working on getting a picture, but our digital camera...

    Re-stringing Bracelet

Hey everyone, It's been 3 days since I re-strung the bracelet and I'm having a bit of an issue. On Sunday I re-strung it removing 1 pearl to compensate for the increased size of the knots. Now, 3 days later, the bracelet has already stretched out to where it was when that pearl was included...

    Re-stringing Bracelet

I wish I would have checked this forum an hour ago! I just finished re-stringing it with the regular double knots and it fits/looks great! Maybe I'll give the PP#30 a try next time it needs to get done. At least I remember the technique I learned yesterday :-)

    Re-stringing Bracelet

Well it's been one day and I think I'll be re-stringing the strand again. It seems that using all the double knots when I re-strung them yesterday made the bracelet slightly too big. I'm afraid I'll have to remove one of the pearls after I gather some supplies. I guess I'll at least get to...

    Re-stringing Bracelet

Learning how to re-string the pearls was a good time. I had a good (and patient) teacher that put up with unplanned knots and stubby fingers. After one practice round on some plastic beads and one round of getting 80% through (before realizing we didn't have enough string), I felt pretty...

    Re-stringing Bracelet

I just ordered myself some of the Power Pro 20. I figure it won't hurt to try it myself a few times...and if I'm unsuccessful, then I can just take the Power Pro to a jeweler instead.

    Re-stringing Bracelet

How difficult would it be for me to re-string it myself?

    Re-stringing Bracelet

Will the fishing line damage the pearls at all? What should I expect the jeweler's response to be when I ask to have my bracelet to be re-strung with fishing line?

    Re-stringing Bracelet

Hey everyone! I bought my wife a Freshadama bracelet last year using nylon string for her medical alert plaque. She didn't listen to my advise to remove it before showering and now I'm left with a pile of pearls. Does anyone have suggestions on the cheapest solution for getting it restrung...

    Akoya vs. Freshwater

Hey everyone! Can anyone tell me how I (an amateur) can identify akoya vs. freshwater pearls? I'm interested in being able to distinguish between the two, but I can't seen to find a good resource.

    Akoya Pearl Necklace

Well the order is placed and my decision finalized: 7.0-7.5mm AAA! Thanks everyone for your help!

    Akoya Pearl Necklace

The funny thing is, I don't think she'd ever think of it as "the one to upgrade". She's notorious (in my mind) for wearing "trendy" plastic jewelry...so each birthday/Christmas I've been working on building up classic jewelry that will last instead of plastic. So either way, she'd give it me...
