    Are these AA quality tahitians?

This thread has been very valuable to me. I, too, wondered if the white blemishes I saw on my string of low-priced Tahitians were a sign of inadequately thin nacre. Great discussion of the different layers and colors possible! I feel better about my cheapies now :-)

    Mabe pearls gritty?

Thanks! I knew they were different because of the way they form on the shell, but had never seen or touched one in person. I'll try to take a photo tomorrow in the daylight. -Louise

    Mabe pearls gritty?

Do mabe pearls have the same gritty tooth feel as, say, freshwater pearls? I have a ring with what has been called a pretty blue "mabe" pearl, but it feels very smooth. -Louise

Hi - Can you please tell me what kind of pearls these are?

Nice luster on those. I see a few that are a bit potato shaped, so my guess is freshwater pearls.

Help with identification of two pearl necklaces

I like that the drop shaped ones are drilled "side to side" rather than through the pointy end. I haven't seen that before. Was it more common in the past?

    Blue grey akoya pearls

Marnie, that's the very best way to purchase pearls, I think. See them, feel your heart pound, then go buy them. Love at first sight!

    Not a friendly design.....

Sea Urchin, I agree! I'm thinking about learning to knot just so I can make myself a graduated color necklace. Random order is nice, but why must they ALL be that way?!?

    Mikimoto 5 Pearl Brooch

What a pretty piece! It is great that you are creatively thinking outside the red velvet box to turn it into a pendant. I'd love to see the finished piece, especially if you can photograph it on your neck. If you're concerned about showing your face, just crop the photo to show only your neck...

What an Ebay pearl buyer needs to know~

Be wary of the phrase "more than 8 available." This means you are looking at a stock photo and not the piece you will actually buy. Another tip is to pull up all items offered by the seller and scan their listings for identical photos. Again, it will not be what you receive. If I see an item...

    green-purple FW pearls

I have a bracelet of the purple-green freshies, and I love it. The pearls are very egg shaped, but have so much luster that my eye looks right past that to the shine and color. My supplier only has this color very rarely, and I do believe they are undyed. Ivona, yours are so, so lovely!
