Please help me identity these pearls!

They look like imitations to me. The gloppy stuff around the drill holes is typical of imitation pearls. Oh, I see PearlDreams even circled the drill hole. Also, they have no overtones. The color is very flat.

    What are these pearls?

The color is wrong, even for dyed pearls. The surface luster is all wrong. It looks like polished glass or gemstone, instead of pearl nacre. The color is the same all the way through, which doesn't happen with any kind of pearl.

Mike Brennan, Pearl.... Something or other

Merrily, thank you for posting this. I'm so glad I did not go. I would have rage stroked. I would have quietly muttered BULLSHIT, and then gotten louder and louder during his talk until they threw me out. I bet his "worked for Mikimoto" was that he worked at a jewelry store and sold one pair...

Visiting Dad today. Judy Jetson necklace with a freshwater button pearl and druzy quartz. Trying to decide which earrings to wear. I usually wear the Mikimoto huggies, but I think today I'll go with the white and gold South Sea and mismatched Tahitian pearls from OceanRhyme. I'll probably...

OOOOO, look just arrived. Sun and Moon 10.5 mm dark blue and pistachio Tahitian studs from Kamoka. Love the new box. There's a magnet in the lid to keep it closed. I think 10.5 mm might be my limit on stud size. Sun and Moon studs with Planet Berna, also from Kamoka. And a Tahitian...

Pajama pearls. Who says you have to dress up to wear pearls? Freshwater pearls from Kojima. All natural colors. The pendant was a dark, intense, chocolate plum color when I bought it. It's now a pale lavender with a pistachio green overtone. I really like it, but it really faded. Long...

My first Tahitian pearls, from Kojima Pearl. I lost one of the sapphires in the vintage white gold clasp years ago. I finally got around to getting it fixed. It cost me a whopping $25. I should have gotten it fixed years ago. It was the clasp that prompted me buy the strand of pearls. I...

Flashback to my last Ruckus. This necklace was a $5 / 10 minute workshop. My mind just went blank on who taught it. Sherrie? Someone correct me. I kinda love it, and wish I had a fancier version. Non-bead nucleated freshwater pearls, 100% nacre. Base metal ring, and leather thongs. It...

I only wear them when I'm going out. I don't wear them at home when I'm doing stuff where they might get chemicals, soap, or scratches on them.

    Super interesting & tragic Mikimoto

Talk to Mikimoto America. I've had them fix pearls I bought from them. If this strand still has all the seals on the strand, they could restring with a proper Miki clasp for you. It might be a bit expensive, but it will be infinitely cheaper than buying a new strand of Mikis.

How it started: I caught this long tin-cup on the handle of my fridge and broke it when I stood up. I feel so stupid, because I did this once before, and Sarah from Kojima kindly fixed it. How it's going: This time, Sarah was in Tucson when I broke it, and when she came back she was busy...
