It was not. The one you felt had naturally occurring blemishes was visible in a photo now that I look back at them. This one was not.

There's nothing on it. It doesn't feel different than the rest of the surface. But I feel like some of the nacre came off there. Is that a reasonable hypothesis?

Does anyone know what these splotches are due to?
