    South Sea earrings?

These are 9.2 mm according to my calipers and set in 14k gold. They pass the tooth test. They’re very round! South Sea or are they gold akoyas? Thank you guys, I appreciate being able to ask stuff like this somewhere without having to drive 2 hours each way to ask the nearest gemologist.

It’s a really common mark & I wish I knew what it meant!

    Weird thrifted pearls

Here they are, freshly washed. In some lighting they’re a pretty uniform silvery-lavender. I need to decide what I want to do with them—string them into a shorter, ombré necklace is probably the answer, and then use the leftovers for other projects. I can’t believe these were $10.

Today it’s a thrifted necklace, pearls with crystal beads. I feel like I found a Kojima piece in the wild, thrifted in Tucson. It’s a fun piece, I love it. Not pictured are gold, diamond & Akoya Maui Divers earrings I scored on eBay for the price of the backs. It’s amazing what pearls on the...

    Weird thrifted pearls

This is really inspiring! Mine is 36” so I can do a lot with it. I’m thinking maybe I’ll get some solid blue akoyas and make an ombré strand with it. How cool would that be?

    Weird thrifted pearls

wow!!! Thank you so much! I’m stunned this is the natural color. I’ll definitely wash and restring them. I bought a kit from Patty and am practicing on an old bracelet today. Maybe I’ll pick a fun color of string to highlight the interesting color of the pearls!

    Weird thrifted pearls

I thrifted these so I’m not in them for much and I mostly got them because they’re mystifying to me. They pass the tooth test and look like akoyas—not one potato! But they’ve got a sterling spring ring clasp and it’s like someone spilled ink on them? Poor dye job? The coloring on them is so...

Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

Thank you! It’s so unique, I had it made because I’ve never seen a ring like that before. Here’s a necklace I wear often, it’s sterling with keishi and a Tennessee pearl. The pearl looks almost like a crystal. I’m not sure what kind of keishi they are, I think Tennessee Edit: I found my...

    What Did I Buy?

Wow, thank you so much for the course info! I will definitely take it. I’m slowly branching out from just-for-fun grade pearls to nicer ones, so being better informed is awesome. My necklace went off to the jeweler to be strung, woooo.

    What Did I Buy?

Thank you guys so much—I’d have never thought of Fiji pearls, glad I asked. It is longer than 16” and I’ll get it nicely strung with a proper clasp. As for rummaging at the wholesaler, I’m a total nobody I just ask nicely. I do it every year and bring friends so they know me by now. I don’t...

    What Did I Buy?

It was from a reputable pearl wholesaler, they only deal in pearls. I visit them every year and rummage in their inventory. I’ve bought Tahitians and South Sea pearls from them over the years. I haven’t seen this inventory tag on their stuff in a decade, so it’s been forgotten somewhere...

    What Did I Buy?

So, I dragged out a bunch of Tahitian and South Sea pearls that I’m 100% confident in and these ones felt the same on my teeth as those. I about had a heart attack thinking they-re fake, but they feel like I’d expect

Definitely gritty. Here’s my best attempt at pictures of the flaws, most are just little pin pricks

    What Did I Buy?

I bought this from a wholesaler, from what I can tell it’s been lost in their inventory for a long time. They thought it was South Sea but the colors are so unusual. There’s several different colors—4 blues, 9 greens, greys, goldish ones, pinks. A mix of Tahitian and South Sea? They look...
