I think you may be right about the bead nucleus. Maybe they are baroque akoyas. There's a lot of wear around those bead holes.

I agree with PD, Chinese freshwater rosebud pearls. Sorry, but they are not rare. You just don't see them sold much because they aren't smooth and round. They're very pretty. Enjoy wearing them!
