    Possible pearl nucleus materials

I was about to mention the Sango pearls. The red coral nucleus shows through the white pearl nacre and makes the pearls look pink. It's a bit of a different pink than the regular pinking process which is when white pearls are dyed a pale pink to be the desirable color that most people expect...

A visit to House of Keshi/Pearl Exporting Company in Kobe

Yes, I love those multistrand necklaces with the briolettes, too. I regret not buying one during the PP Live event. They even had ones with diamonds, and I couldn't make my finger buy them at the time, and now I regret it. They were gorgeous.

Rainbow hued Kasumi pearl from Kojima. Wire wrapped necklace of intensely golden SS keshi and tourmalines from Hisano at PP. Boring little tourmaline earrings, barely worth mentioning.

A visit to House of Keshi/Pearl Exporting Company in Kobe

JEG, thank you for sharing photos of their shop and designs. They're gorgeous. I bought one of their necklaces during a PP Live event, and the quality of the pearls and stringing is amazing. In hindsight, I wish I'd bought more. It's probably good I wasn't in their shop. I would have...

Japan Pearl Tour and the 7th Japan Pearl Fair hosted by the Japan Pearl Exporters Association

Oh JEG, great photos! So much fun. I'm having flashbacks, haha. I can tell by the pearls exactly whose booths you were in, and that gives me great joy.

Visiting Dad today wearing Mom's pearls. Mom's akoya ring and ring pin. My freshwater drops from Kojima on my own huggies. Comparing my Hanadama studs to my baroque akoya necklace from PP. From a short distance, they match really well. Up close, the Hanadamas have a perfect surface...

Please, would you check my metaphors?

Dyed pearls come in all colors. I have dyed freshies that are pale blue. They're not the same kind of blue as blue akoyas, but they are on the pale blue grey side. And, I have some dark, peacock colored, dyed freshies, too. I happen to love them all.

I have to share this photo. I'm not a cat person. This is my friend's cat. I recently corrupted her to the pearl side, and she's taking the Pearls As One course. She just bought some Tahitians from PP and Kojima, and here's the photo of the tin-cup she bought. Isn't he a glorious model!

Single Hanadama Pearl: not a thing?

Also, to get back to the quality that Hanadama strands used to be, they now have several qualities higher than Hanadama, like Tennyo and Granpearl. But again, these are for strands, not single pearls. Single pearls for pendants were and are always a much higher quality that pearls that are...

    Antique Mikimoto Pearls - Identification

The clasp is not a Mikimoto clasp. My mother took two strands of Mikimoto pearls and put a double strand clasp on them, so my mother's Miki's don't have a Mikimoto clasp, either. But she did have the Mikimoto serial numbers of the two strands that she kept in the box with the pearls...

Single Hanadama Pearl: not a thing?

I would also recommend vendors that will do a Zoom session with you with a good camera to really show you the pearls like you would see them in person. I know Pearl Paradise does that.

Single Hanadama Pearl: not a thing?

When I went on my Japan Trip in June to the pearl farms, one of the vendors talked to us about NOT getting his pearls certified as Hanadama, because the certifications were lowering their standards so that more pearls would pass as Hanadamas. It's because everyone wanted a certificate with...

Please, would you check my metaphors?

Just from the photos, they look like dyed freshwater pearls to me. The size, and the egg shapes, and the colors look like dyed freshies. I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like from your photos to me. On the plus side, if they are freshies, they are 100% pearl nacre, with no bead...

Japan Pearl Tour and the 7th Japan Pearl Fair hosted by the Japan Pearl Exporters Association

Of course Hisano got the best, big pearl from the oyster. That happened on my trip, too. Hisano got a beautiful blue, dropped shaped pearl. She knows how to pick them!!!! The Atomic Bomb museum and the Peace Park actually brought tears to my eyes.
