Live Discussion: The New Bead-Nucleated Freshwater Pearls from China

Fascinating! Thank you, Yens. Loved the video. I'm amazed that every time I've watched pearl cultivation, every person has a different way of doing it. I've seen the mantle tissue being put in, and then the bead. I've seen the bead put in and then the mantle tissue. And in your video, the...

Lurker, got a huge tease and a disappointment 🙁

Yeah, that clasp is typical Majorica. Should wear very well even you're hard on them. Remember, they're fakes. Enjoy them and don't keep them for best.

Live Discussion: The New Bead-Nucleated Freshwater Pearls from China

I thought Jeremy and Hisano's information about the new pearls and the farming techniques was very interesting. I liked the whiteness and the luster of the new pearls. The older I get, the more I like white vs. pinked pearls. And they have quite thick nacre. 2mm vs. 0.4 mm for my natural...

Here be dragons! Mom's vintage Rice Krispie pearls. 12 strands. Mom originally wore these as a torsade, but I prefer the strands loose.

    My Eclipse pearls faded.

I also have an Edison pendant pearl from Kojima that faded. It was a deep chocolate plum color originally, and now it is pale lavender with green overtones. I still really like the pearl, so I've kept it. But yeah, I'll stick with Tahitians and BBAs for my deeply colored pearls. If I win...

    My Eclipse pearls faded.

I wasn't going to mention this, because I wasn't sure how Jeremy would feel about it. But, he mentioned it last night on the PP Live event that discussed the new bead nucleated freshwater pearls being produced in China, so I will share what happened. Both Pattye and I had Edison freshwater...

JEG: As usually, I love everything! It would have been Mom's birthday today, so I'm wearing her vintage pearls. 5 mm pearl necklace was bought in 1959. 9 mm akoya pearl necklace, South Sea earrings, akoya ring, and freshwater bracelet were bought in the 1990s.

    Pearl Strands-identify?

If she was a jeweler, is it possible that the charm is HER mark?

Broken Mikimoto brooch..can it be fixed?

If you contact Mikimoto America, they can fix it for you. They fixed an earring for me. It's not going to be cheap, but they'll do right, especially if you want the value of a Mikimoto piece to remain valuable and not have a regular jeweler mess it up or make it look like it was fixed.

New to pearls and help needed to identify what I have bought

The colors are all wrong. The surface texture is all wrong. They don't look like real pearls at all. Much like seeing a plastic gem and knowing it's not a real ruby, after you've seen enough real pearls, fake ones just stand out as not real.

    Pair of 28mm coin pearls

My mom had mabe' pearl earrings that size back in the late 1980s or 90s. If your earlobe can handle the look, go for it.
