If you contact Mikimoto America, they can fix it for you. They fixed an earring for me. It's not going to be cheap, but they'll do right, especially if you want the value of a Mikimoto piece to remain valuable and not have a regular jeweler mess it up or make it look like it was fixed.

The colors are all wrong. The surface texture is all wrong. They don't look like real pearls at all. Much like seeing a plastic gem and knowing it's not a real ruby, after you've seen enough real pearls, fake ones just stand out as not real.

Do I have too many pendants? I think I missed a few. I like to wear mismatched pairs of them on my own earring hoops and huggies, because I think the look is bolder than a lot of premade earrings. Kamoka, Kojima, Pacific Pearls, Pearl Paradise, Takahashi.

I put a base metal, gold plated and crystal clasp on my original akoya rope from the 1980s because the diamond and gold clasp my mother had bought for it looked crappy. The diamond chips were grey and had no sparkle to them, and the gold was thin. The fake clasp was the same design, but...

If it's marked "Sterling" that usually means it was made in America. Japan marked their silver "Silver" or "S".
