OOOOO, nice!

The GIA prices for a single pearl are probaby by carat weight, because they only get natural pearls to evaluate, and naturals are done by carat weight, not mm size. I think GIA may never had a single cultured pearl sent to them.

That's what mabe' pearls look like. Mabe's are grown over a mold. After the pearl is harvested, the mold is removed from the nacre, and the nacre "cup" is filled with resin. Then a flat mother of pearl backing is applied.

Just home today, chilling with my ice cube necklaces earrings from Kojima. I used to think the earrings looked a bit like coral, but now I think they look like a jumping dolphin and a hammerhead shark.

I was about to mention the Sango pearls. The red coral nucleus shows through the white pearl nacre and makes the pearls look pink. It's a bit of a different pink than the regular pinking process which is when white pearls are dyed a pale pink to be the desirable color that most people expect...

Yes, I love those multistrand necklaces with the briolettes, too. I regret not buying one during the PP Live event. They even had ones with diamonds, and I couldn't make my finger buy them at the time, and now I regret it. They were gorgeous.

Dyed pearls come in all colors. I have dyed freshies that are pale blue. They're not the same kind of blue as blue akoyas, but they are on the pale blue grey side. And, I have some dark, peacock colored, dyed freshies, too. I happen to love them all.
