Douglas - do you know what causes the Blue Akoya to often have a mottled surface? It appears on a lot of the Blues I've seen and there is a pale beige sort of under colour ? And do they actually know why they are blue ? Is it due to a bacterial infection or such creating debris in the layers ?

My only suggestion would to be to ask for close ups of the baroque strand to see how noticeable the possible flaws are.. it's hard to tell if I'm seeing flaws or it's the light/ reflections . Obviously the lustre is higher on the left but the right appear to be very pretty. Just get a close up.

I can see that this would be useful for the more expensive pearls that gain value from their origin. I get so tired of every seller saying their White South Sea are Australian... but can't back it up.
