Beading Merries and Mishaps by Cece

I have Tahitians strung on a long black cord that I wear A LOT because it's so easy to throw on. The length is around 48" but the pearls are spaced out. So, it's knot-pearl-knot then a long section of cord, knot-pearl-knot, sometimes knot-pearl-knot-pearl-knot, long section of cord, etc. Some...

    Are these Tahitian pearls?

I also think they look like Tahitians. I've seen many with uniform color sold at retail.

    Bleaching Vintage Akoyas?

Akoyas do come in golden shades. Maybe your pearls aren't supposed to be white?

Mixing different type of pearls in a bracelet?

If you decide to go with macrame, keep in mind that white cord will get dirty fairly quickly.

    Bleaching Vintage Akoyas?

So ... walnut shells will be abrasive. You will be removing nacre, and Akoya pearl nacre tends to be relatively thin. In the original polishing, walnut shell bath is used to remove oyster residue, but you're way past that. I'm wondering ... why would you want to do this? I think vintage Akoya...

Mixing different type of pearls in a bracelet?

I agree with your husband; trying to get "the look for less" won't be satisfying. I don't know how to make macrame bracelets, but there are probably videos on Youtube. The heart wants what it wants, and yours wants WSS, 18K and diamonds. :)

Pearls looking more beautiful when worn regularly?

A friend once told me that the servants to the Queen of England (whichever it happened to be) would keep her pearls in their bosom, for the body oils to maintain the pearl luster when they weren't being worn. I'm not sure if I believe it, but it would match the maids- with- pearl- skins story...

Mixing different type of pearls in a bracelet?

Please don't hate me for saying this, but I think you can find something similar without too much trouble. I did a quick search for "shamballa pearl bracelet" and got a lot of results, some as low at $20. It may take you some time to find pearls with different sizes, and higher quality pearls...

I agree, they appear to be freshwater pearls. When you say "double strand," are you referring to the length?

A mini Ruckus 2025 at Pearl Paradise

It's interesting how the pearl industry is always changing. I have some souffle pearls and I don't really consider myself to be an astute collector. I'm guessing bead nucleated freshwaters are the future for speed and shape? No more waiting years and years for large, round pearls? Thank you for...

I have washed pearls in Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap Baby Unscented; I think it was recommended here or maybe on Pricescope?

    De-Stash Project - Stash Bash

I'm curious about something ... has anyone ever had some loose pearls and you can't remember where they came from? I had some loose baroque Akoyas -- I know where I bought 13 of them, but there were a lot more than that. I don't recall any broken strands. I've been wondering for weeks. It's a...

    Do pearl earrings intimidate men?

"Social media has a theory that pearl earrings repel men. Pearl jewelry often symbolizes beauty, class and sophistication. Now, for those exact views, single girls on TikTok are ditching the feminine pieces because they think wearing them is preventing them from meeting eligible bachelors. To...
