How long can the various types of pearls last anyway, if properly taken care/stored? Am especially curious re: tahitians and ssps. Have seen plenty of vintage akoyas and they are invariably yellowed... I'm guessing they were fairly white when new. What do vintage ssps and Tahitians look like...

The Mikimoto splash collection has rings n pendants too... not sure about brooches. Yeah personally I think it's a tad too big and heavy for earrings. As for rings I'll be concerned that the pearls will knock or accidentally get caught on stuff too easily.

Is that the industry standard terminology? Because in discussions with a regular vendor that I buy from, he refers to most of the pearls at the shows as commercial grade. Based on what I see, many are AA+/AAA grade.

Does the whiteness of the pearl bother you? If so then you may need to consider if fwp is a good fit to what you are looking for. Generally fwp are not as white, veering to a cream/warm white color.
