    Are these south sea pearls?

Polforos... I had a good friend who owned a jewelry store...she said, many people would bring in very worn items for repair....but a few, very few would bring in items that looked "hardly worn" they said that they wore them every day and want to sell them for something different. She said it...

A Visit to Mikimoto Pearl Island

That is so very interesting!!! I love the 12 ways jewelry kit... back in the day... so much fun...my grandmother talked about the Coro Duo brooches...but that takes it to a whole different level!!

    Newly thrifted ring

Others know better than I, but it looks like a freshwater "button" pearl. I love the color combo & design! Than one, either the tooth test or against another known real pearl. If you start buying thrift store gold or silver... there are fake marks...especially 925... so you want to get a...

    Are these south sea pearls?

Polforos... There are quite a few places that encourage people to save on clasps & spend more on the pearls. While I think that might be great for Grey pearls.... (Silver with Rodium is very hard to tell from white gold, unless it is marked) I find the silver on the Golden SS a little...

    Differentiate saltwater from freshwater pearls

Freshpeachez... with Thrift store pearls... It helps a lot to know both clasp & pearl culturing. For instance, the graduated strand were a post WWII thing often sold to military stationed or going to Asia (I assume that the Korean & Vietnam War were big drivers of that...so 50's-60's) ..Most...

My beta project! Not pearls but they COULD be incorporated.

I have several of these in woven pearls bracelets, even as a necklace. I think these are stunning and so much work. If you can get some small roundish pearls and vintage Rice pearls...you could make a very similar pattern.

    Mikimoto strand

Just up the road near Tacoma after traveling the country with my sweet man. Loved taking my Grandmother to WS Nordstroms and window shopping...she went to the fashion..as she wanted more bling. She bought some rice pearls in the late 80's, but only because they were 12 stand.

    New US Tariffs

Well that is one take on pearl tariffs. I normally participate in another sector of the economy that has current tariff issues and was surprised at pearl tariffs. Bet the case could be made for nacre.

    Post War Mikimoto

TheTanfieldKid I was in a jewelry forum & a jeweler's heir was discussing her brother's addiction & stealing metal stamps to sell fakes for $. Her father had to replace them & it lead to a very interesting discussion on marks & metal stamps & accuracy. Followed by lots of stories of fakes...some...

    Found at a thrift store

I had the same issues with 2 estates too. What I find so funny is thrift stores/estate sales/church sales.... I have seem so many marked (Marvella, etc) faux pearls that were priced high ($30-50), while older genuine pearls tossed in the $5 bin because they did not have a hang tag or weren't...

Type of metal used in Tin Cups

@Shani I have seen tin cups of silver, gold, gold filled, base metal, fine silk (rope like) thread and "fish line". Others have given you ideas. The Silk hangs really nicely, but gets dirty. The "fishing line" is really horrible...kinking & bending.... was an "illusion" craze...I doubt you...

    New US Tariffs

SteveM... I can understand the FW tariffs as we do make FW pearls in the US.... but do we in the US make any saltwater pearls? Or do I just misunderstand tariffs?

When were you at Nordstroms and was that downtown PDX? For a couple of years I and my Architecture classmates took (25 cent) coffee breaks in downtown Nordstroms.... I made sure to walk by the jewelry on my way up to coffee! I certainly didn't know anything about pearls then.

14k clasp indication of quality or what is the worse mismatch of clasp and pearls you have seen and why is it bad?

Oh...Yeah I think you are in Canada.. that's tense right now. EBay & Etsy both have sellers in Canada for new findings or reuse pearl clasps. I would really check feedback on both for any seller. There is even a couple thrift stores that sell on eBay in Canada. I have even seen a couple of...

14k clasp indication of quality or what is the worse mismatch of clasp and pearls you have seen and why is it bad?

Shani 2 thoughts: Bella Findings has a fairly good selections for reasonable price (there are others). Findings are usually tied to the price of gold or silver, so with gold high the clasps are expensive. Wait to buy? The other option is since restringing is fairly easy: look & see if you can...

Iv no idea what these are.Any thoughts?

Wow! those are amazing! The attachment to each pearl looks handmade. The current way to make those the pin is poured with the "bail" part...not a separate part.....The "spring ring" is old, not the 1950's spring ring or even the earlier one from the 1920's ....$$$ in the making so those pearls...
