Has the Pearls as One course been updated since Jan 2024?

The Pearls as One is excellent, I learned so much! I think more than anything, I realized how much goes into making a saltwater pearl necklace. When I have a sack of unloved vintage pearls, it is hard to imagine that much work ever went into them. (I also got my info from my sweet hubby on...

Does IWI or IMI on a clasp mean "low grade Mikimoto"?

The earring pearls look like Akoyas to me. My experience is that with Akoya earrings in 14k, it is usually a diamond at that size. That was a steal! But the next time you are in a jewelry store, they might test for you. The strand is freshwater. Is that 14k or 925 clasp on the necklace? If...

Tips for Taking photos of pearls with your phone

I love the old thread of taking photos with pearls, but it seems as. most of those are taken with cameras. Anyone have tips for phones? Especially iphones & getting colors correct. (could be mine that wants a yellow grey to be the default.)

    Pearls as One question

Great I get it now! I just have to get a white dish...my collection is either clear or colored. I might try clear over a paper towel.

    Pearls as One question

I love the idea of being to tell the undertone...But I am having a hard time imagining this situation "One of the best way to observe a pearl's overtones is to place them inside a small, white colored container with enough water in it to fully cover the pearls and use indirect natural light: you...

    Any information about these pearls?

I am sorry, they are imitation. The clasp is typical of imitation with no safety. But several of the front has a "pearls" that have lost some coating down to the glass. Rubbing together really helps, but so does checking for coating loss.

    Akoya or South seas or...

They seem pre-80's by the clasp, so that would leave typical freshwater potato out & Edison out too... I think it is possible that the clasp was reused recently... not as likely. I also have Akoyas that are off round (In a different way from FW) and wondered if these might be lower quality...

    Akoya or South seas or...

14k White Gold clasp. Akoyas, South seas or Edison. I tried the light from below and saw pink/green on 3 pearls faintly. (I don't know if I should trust that.) They are about 8mm-9mm. They have an much lower luster than my other akoyas even after washing in handsoap. They have low grit...

    Ruined Pearls

I only need a few of pearls, but I have tried washing them with handsoap and the water got white. The middles are fine & scratching with a fingernail takes it off, but washing it seems to bring it back. Are they ruined, if not any ideas what it could be?

Is Mikimoto Brand New Worth it?

I agree with the others... People will notice stunning pearls, but very, very few will notice the clasp & ID Mikimoto. I often wonder if that is how the trend of designer t-shirt with brand across the front started...

Need help to identify this vintage bracelet and beautiful clasp.

I have a couple of Akoyas where they cut off a odd shaped end to make them round... the end looks like yours... kind of yellowy no luster shell bit. Hope that helps

Need help to identify this vintage bracelet and beautiful clasp.

Last Thought: They have white gold spacer beads of different shapes (Bella Findings will give you ideas) Even one set of 3 on each end around the clasp, with gimp & knots might just give you enough. (I got smart & started to use math to figure out what I needed.) To do bigger knots, I string all...

    Authentic Vintage Mikimoto Pearls?

Someone else who knows more will jump in..The clasp looks fantastic & correct.....but Mikimoto has different grades A, AA, AAA... Yours are in the middle. If you want a higher AAA, these (according to the authenticator) are only AA. It might be the grade that is throwing you off? Others can...

Need help to identify this vintage bracelet and beautiful clasp.

BrendaKY Great Find! There are findings places that sell the safety catch, but it needs something that it hooks into. The other option...for temporary would be to get a white gold safety chain. it could go from one side to the other. (hook it on the ring that attaches to the clasp on each...

    Can You Please Identify These?

Robin Marie... if you are looking for Tahitian pearls... look at the Tahitian pearl thread & the Pearls course. Most of the value of these are in the "pretty" and the gold clasp...around $30 used. Still fun.

    Possible fake clasp

As some others have said, the clasps can be changed as someone restrings. Since this is in Silver.... it could have been taken off a nicer strand where the owner wanted a gold or more decorative clasp, then this one was strung on lesser quality non-Mikimoto pearls. Or it could be a fake...

How much color difference is acceptable?

Nihal... Absolutely veteran jewelry "window shopper".... most high end jewelry stores have Pearls...including Tiffany's. Whenever I was in a big city...I would drag my husband into the most expensive jewelry stores to "just look". I have learned a lot by looking! One of the best places to...
