Is it Normal For White FW Pearls to Darken a Bit With Wear?

Wow that was a proper investigation Gemandpearlover! Unfortunately, no coating is permanent and while some might last long - most won't. The grade of pearls you actually happen to buy is below commercial grade - it's a mixture of cultured pearls with no luster that are later covered in...

    luster question.

The wear of nacre layer and luster loss depends greatly on individual factors such as skin acid levels. I've seen strands of akoya completely worn down to nucleus in just 3 years while proper care been taken (akoya pearls have thin layer of nacre, so they are very subject to external damage)...

New to forum . . . Trying to find out about my pearls

I cannot see a single blemish on them, so either it's a very well matched strand of Tahitians or imitation strand. Have you tried rubbing pearls against each other to check the gritty feel? Also, is the person who collected these pearls a dealer or pearl farmer? To collect a strand of so well...

Please help! Are these real Tahitian pearls?

These are the cheap quality dyed freshwater buttons, not tahitians, unfortunately. I also don't think they were cut, it's just that the back is not covered with a cup - but for the cup I think there would be many more of such pearls seen around. Nothing unusual. But if you like the idea of them...

Chalky white spots on carved pearls?

Looks like some paint/ carving residue to me.. Have you tried maybe lightly brushing them with a soft tooth brush? PS I've seen one of those carved tahitians from Wen on a friend and it had bright color only inside the carved bits, while the pearl itself looked rather buffed. It was nice...

Red, those look great together! Those pipi pearls would go well with so many things, even like citrines or smoky quartz pendants (if you wear gems with pearls of course ;) )

    The pearl that got away

I sort of miss/regret not getting a small lot of light blue tahitians from Jac, they were AA+/AAA quality and 8-9mm size, but at the time I wanted bigger pearls. I did get my blue strand in the end, but I still have doubts "whether those ones would be bluer" :D

    Nacre Thickness in Hanadama/Madama

Hanadamas and madamas - you really would want to see a few strands side by side to choose from. Once they meet certain requirements and are high-graded, there is still a lot of difference between them. Certificates will say nothing of it, so the only real way is to look/ compare strands. As...
