I have to agree with everybody else, the shape does suggest there is a round bead inside like a typical cultured SS pearl. It is a nice pearl with interesting color and a pleasing shape though - would make a great pendant.

Now that's a good sized pearl, perfect shape for a pendant as well IMO.

Yes pictures are needed. For a seller to just give you an extra necklace because there was a shipping mistake means to me that the value of the pearls is worth less then the cost to pay for your return shipping. The whole thing screams dyed freshwater pearls IMO.

looks like big pieces of polished shell to me and as Caitlin said nobody is going to pay much for them, even if they were pearls.

Most times with minor blemishing you'll never notice it while wearing the pearls, it just depends how much it bothers you knowing its there? Sometimes you can polish it out a bit, but with a vintage Akoya I wouldn't suggest going that route, the nacre is already going to be thin.

I'm leaning freshwater as well, we need closer pics to say for sure though. I quite possible the jeweler just doesn't know any better and assumed they must be South Sea because of the size. For the record, Freshwater pearls do come in sizes larger then 12mm.

One of the reasons I opted to use a toggle clasp on our ripples, just makes life so much easier.
