Is this necklace really South Sea Pearls as described?

If you read the description on that page they do call them cultured freshwater pearls. Seems odd but they do this for a few items on their site, calling them Freshwater "South sea" pearls.

any of the pearl is natural wild pearl ?

the dark colored pearls would be cultured Tahtian pearls and the silver/white pearls would be cultured South Sea pearls. Hope that helps, do you have any plans for them?

Burma golden pearls, updating data on the market

That's what I was told at the Jewelmer farm as well, about 2 years in the water after nucleation. Color is largely dependent on the genetics of the host oyster, drilling won't have an effect. I have no idea how long Burmese pearls are in the water but I can't imagine they would be any longer...

    Strack's "Pearls"

Strack is the bible of pearls, although it really needs an update to address what's going on in Freshwater pearls today.

Queen Sonja of Norway's Pearls - Are They Real???

I'm not sure if they're supposed to look like pearls or just a coincidence, but they certainly aren't Tahitian pearls.

    Blue baroque akoya pearls

Out of 1000's and 1000's of normal Akoya pearls at one of the big gem shows, there may only be a few dozen natural color Akoya strands for sale. They are still very rare, but we're just so spoiled here on PG that really rare pearls seem common place. Out in the real world, you could visit...

Natural Golden Pearl Necklace at Bonham's Fine Jewelry Auction Oct 2014

wow, that's one heck of a strand of natural pearls. I'm actually surprised the estimated value is as low as it is, I would have expected 6 digits.

    Supersized SSPs, anyone?

That strand was HUGE! Made of silverly/blue baroque and "gas giants", the center pearl was about the size of a golf ball! Cyndayco it was great to meet you and have you escort us to the gala. We took a ton of pics but might not have a chance to upload them for a few days. I will say the Gala...

    Natural or not?

They could be, but more then likely they are cultured, only way to know would be to x-ray.

    Please help determine value

They look like cultured freshwater pearls, not a heck of a lot of value given the size and imperfections, but a nice keepsake from your great Aunt none the less.

How rare is translucency in pearls

hmm, I always thought the term "water" was used to describe the type of luster that appears from within the pearl, like there is a layer of water over it. We see it a lot in metallic FW pearls, where it's not just shiny but looks like there is metal within the pearl.

How rare is translucency in pearls

Hey Richard, I'm not sure the species, you'd have to contact the guy on facebook and see if he can provide more details. I also can't comment on rarity or value, it's not something we ever see when dealing with cultured pearls, keshi included. Very interesting though, please update the thread...
