The golden rule: if it looks too good to be true, it usually is. In this case, I would not shop anywhere that has something in abundance that established pearl dealers don't. Reviews can be purchased.

Be aware of gem stone beads with sharp edges that can cut through a thread. You may need wire.

You might want to check with a seller like Cees, om Instagram, who is known here, has a good reputation and ships out of both the EU and US.

People generally think pearls are valuable and generally they are not - something you don't realize until you start learning about them. Even if they were real pearls they probably wouldn't be worth a fraction of what she thinks.

The luster looks really low if they are Akoya. I would expect to see some fairly clear reflections even with the 'dead' background.

I have a pearl necklace where I wear the clasp halfway up the side. Clasps can be part of the decoration and not just for holding the strand together :-)

If you can post better pictures, preferably on a white background, we should be able to help you find out what type of pearls they are. With that information you can check eBay for similar strands that sold and see what they sold for.

Welcome! As far as I know, good quality Akoya don't just wear out. Also consider that this might only be the first in a long line of pearl necklaces - if she gets bitten by the bug :-) If she does, she is likely to be wearing a lot of other necklaces than just the first one and it will last...

You can try to search on eBay for sold (be sure to search for those who actually sold) necklaces of the same kind.

I don't feel confident commenting on the type. Just that $2000 is a fair bit of money so the first question to ask might be if you LOVE them. If not, move on - regardless of what they are.

I've reread several times, trying to find out what type of pearls they are and if they are the same but if it's there, I've missed it. If the large ones are South Sea Pearls and the smaller ones are Akoya, there would almost always be a difference in luster. SSP are known for a softer, satiny...
