Luster on photo under the daylight

In my early buying days I purchased what were advertised as "Tahitian" and "South Sea"...like warned above the price was too good to be true, and what I received was clearly dyed freshwaters. They know there's no way you'll send them back to China. Be sure to use reputable sellers on...

    My "Pearling" Story...

I recently attended another Jewelry Show at the NRG Stadium in Houston. The Houston Texan's win meant that the jewelry show was only held on Friday and Sunday since Saturday was a play-off game. I was eyeing a really nice strand of 9-11 mixed Tahitian pearls from Mr. Wu (the same seller who sold...

    Help to identify

They also appear to be strung on "fishing" wire or something clear? They would have had to be restrung at some point since their original creation as I don't think they were stringing necklaces on clear string 70+ years ago. However, they were using gold for clasps then, as gold was much less...

    My "Pearling" Story...

Here is a project that was inspired by @jeg ...she posted an amazing brooch that she wore on a chain and it was the inspiration for this piece. I had a "cornflake keshi" double strand mixed with tiny near-round FW pearls that I almost never wore. I wanted to see if I could create something...

    My "Pearling" Story...

Just checking in during a busy winter work season. I'm still enjoying wearing something different each day from my collection but unfortunately I don't always take photos. Here is a very simple blue/purple mixed color of 3-4mm pearls with my Judith Ripka Pearl Enhancer cross. It is such a cool...

    My "Pearling" Story...

Black and Blue today! Sapphire earrings with my 9mm South Sea White pearl enhancer that has a beautiful sapphire tear-drop stone and diamond. The enhancer is worn on my 7mm black Akoya pearl strand. A fun winter combination. It's cold here today, well, cold for Texas. Hope everyone is well. The...

    Baroque necklace

I was referring to the "middle" pearls in this first image...those appear multi colored. Your mother's Tahitians look very similar to a strand my mother had too. Lovely relatively uniform gray/blue/silver color. My sister got those as I have so many pearls of my own. The clasp is nice but I...

    My "Pearling" Story...

Happy 2024! I'm back at work today wearing my custom graduated 3-strand 3-color Akoya necklace and a south sea floating pearl on a gold chain. Found all these strands separately and then configured this necklace.

    My "Pearling" Story...

It's so sweet, I stopped by my daughter's house this morning to drop off a pie crust, can of organic pumpkin and can of evaporated milk so my 7-year old granddaughter can make her favorite for dinner/dessert: Pumpkin Pie. When I left for work and leaned down to hug the 4 year old, she carefully...

    My "Pearling" Story...

It's almost Christmas! So happy there is a slight chill in the air and a Christmas Sweater is in order. I decided to go simple with my pearls today. A 12mm South Sea slightly oval (nice drop shape) with a simple diamond bale and some 7mm Akoya pearls with an illusion diamond earring jacket. Hope...

How Do You Store Your Pearls? Show Us!

That IS a tough question! That's why I recently purchased a FIRE/GUN safe and had it retrofitted with shelves so that I don't have to grab anything...it is all safe and sound locked away, even in case of a fire. It was peace of mind for all the time and money invested. It is in a location that...

How Do You Store Your Pearls? Show Us!

Silver bags have a chemical that prevents tarnish...I'm not sure what the chemical might do to pearls for long term storage...you might want t do some research. Pearls are very sensitive to different chemicals since they are a organic substace. Does anyone know what silver cleaner/preservative...

So nice of you to take time to read my LONG posts. What is your pearling story?

Garnet, of course! A lovely combination. I love how the deeper red brings out the aubergine of the Tahitian pearls. And 18K gold! Fantastic, that would also lend itself to genuine pearls. Most high-end claps have similarly matched pearls, although not always.

    Baroque necklace

These pearls appear to be Tahitian and I would have the diamonds on the clasp tested for authenticity. Also, check for any "stamp" for the gold content. 14K 18K, etc. or have it tested too. The other rocks/stones might be sapphire or polished ruby...are they smooth? Again, you need to let a...

    Baroque necklace

The clasp is selling for $1,500 to $1,800 dollars depending on the quality and carat weight of the diamonds. It would be helpful to see any "pits" or markings on the nacre up close as well as the drill holes to make a better identification.
