What is the nucleus of "Chinese kasumi" ripple pearls?

I really wish this would stop, this constant searching for cheaper/quicker alternatives to the classic American Freshwater nucleus. Not only are the tridacna shells CITES protected, but they're horrible for pearl nucleation. One reason is the drilling issues mentioned by GemGeek and Pattye, but...

The Untucked Crop with Long Pearls

Yeah we gotta get our hands on some baby pearls so we can offer these- the babies are just so delicate and pretty, and they make gorgeous accents to larger pearls!! They are on my wish list for HK this year... ;) The outfit would be good for casual office wear- definitely not a lawyer's or...

    AAAA Quality?

Definitely, however I've always enjoyed the Tahitians just the teensiest bit more than the South Seas as I am a color and iridescence addict. :D

The Untucked Crop with Long Pearls

We recently had Mary Orten of the Classy Cubicle style our pearls with her latest how-to, the "Untucked Crop-Top" for the office (who knew?!). We think it turned out really great, and I am seriously loving the edgy look she put together (with pink as its focal point!) What do you guys think...

    Pearl Belt, Anyone? :)

I wore my favorite jeans throughout my pregnancy with Rainy-bird, but then she carried pretty high so I was able to button up under the belly ;) It takes a couple of months for the extra baby belly skin to go away, but it will! ;) Back to pearl belts- love it! I made one for myself out of...

Found these things on a beach, what are they ??

I'd be really tempted to set them on their ends so the swirl underneath shows- those are really cool! :)

    Freshwater pearls 3.5 mm

I am really loving the luster and shape of your baby FWs!! Just lovely. My favorite photo was the last one with the pearls spread against an ostrich feather (although the porcelain is very elegant, too!), I love the mix and match with different textures. :)

    Purchasing Pearls online

Welcome Claudia! In France, I understand that you have to hire an independent customs broker to help your items clear customs faster- is that accurate?

Chanel and Vogue Spring 2014 - Do or Don't?

I think this little girl got the look right! But then I'm a sucker for cute little girls in oversized pearls- it just looks too cute ;) And then I saw Emma Watson at the Golden Globes with her Asymmetrical Pearl Studs and thought- Wow. That's actually kinda cool...

    Outrageous Pearl Ring

Too Right! Oddly enough, I'd rock that ring all over the city, but the bracelet could stay at home. I guess I have an odd sense of fashion :o

I think treasure hunting is in my blood

What a fascinating thread! Paul, I've simply been enthralled reading your story, and I'm off to read Joseph's letter asap. Thank you so much for sharing, it's brought this slice of history to life for me! :) The second, unsolved part of the story has my imagination whirling- the writer in me...

Trying to find out about these beauties

Absolutely gorgeous, and I have to concur with the other posters here- those definitely look like a natural-color blue Akoya with Rose overtones- the color is very distinctive. Congratulations on your find- those are stunning. What strikes me about the necklace is that it's not graduated...

    Collectors of animal-shaped pearls...

Lol- that is totally a 'junk in the trunk' pearl! Love it- you don't see those everyday! Bluebirrrd, I love your delicate charms- layering will be staying strong this year, and it's a look that I'm completely in love with- I really like the mix and match look of the pairings you put together-...

    Biwas?

Not a fan of drilling pearls under 5mm, but I will if I have to! I can't even fathom 1.0mm drilling- ugh. But, I do love those baby pearls- they're so cute and delicate, they look so elegant on everything... Le Sigh. ;) Enjoy your haul- they're beautiful! I kinda like "the silky"

Chanel and Vogue Spring 2014 - Do or Don't?

Lol, Octavia! :) Me neither, really. While I hope the trends this year are for bigger pearls are better, I don't think we need gargantuan pearls like this lol. Otoh, it certainly is intriguing...
