I hadn't quite looked at the article in that light, but now that you mention it, it did seem to make quite a few blanket statements and focus on the negative rather than do their best to educate consumers. Hmmm.

Overall, thumbs up on the piece, but I am getting really tired of this "grains of sand" myth on how wild pearls get their start. I know burrowing parasites aren't very romantic, but when will the real facts finally get printed in a main stream article for the majority of consumers?

I would definitely go with slightly smaller AAA pearls over size any day. The cleaner surfaces, improved luster and (if FW) the rounder shape all combine to be more pleasing to the eye in my opinion.

Those are all definitely cultured akoya pearls; the clasp doesn't appear to me to be vintage ... I found a very similar one from one of my clasp suppliers in 14KW. It's hard to tell from the photos, but antique akoya pearls take on a very distinct deep cream color that I'm just not picking...

That is one gorgeous vintage necklace - wow! Golden pearls and skin tones are tricky; they definitely do look better against tan, olive or brown complexions ... as a fem with plenty of reddish undertones in my Irish skin I couldn't wear them - the gold would clash and enhance the red colors...
