Hi Awesomeo. 6-7mm is pretty small for an adult, and often a size bought for young girls. It seems even the 7-8 mm short strands are soon cast aside as being too small. Of course if that's what your wife likes that's fine but otherwise, I wonder if she'd be happier with more pearl in the less...

Correction: Mia from PP emailed me that the strand listed, which I posted above, is representative. Here is my strand (iPhone shot). This one is 9-12mm, larger than the one I posted earlier, so great bang for the buck. :)

Thanks Katbran. The main heading said the upper size limit was 11.6mm and the description said it was 10.6mm so I'm not sure on the exact size, but I'll be happy with either.

The quality of the settings might be a clue (are they sterling, 14k gold?) Also, do you know where they're from and when they were purchased? Round freshwaters are fairly new for the most part, for example.

If you are looking for a bargain, The Pearl Society (on ebay) is another good one, in my opinion. They have many "imperfect" pearls that are priced accordingly (and flaws can often be hidden in the setting). I've bought from them several times and would trust them to tell you where a pearl came...

I was, er, thinking about trying this on a large pearl I have and love except that it has a small bare spot so it's nice to see it done. Of course it would only be for my own use though... *slinks away in disgrace.* :p P.S. What did Caitlin do?

@leukolenos, I think you were right to send them back since they didn't wow you. My silver Tahitian strand also had flaws but I didn't take a close-up shot and was happy with them anyway since the luster on mine overtook the flaws at normal viewing distance. But I have felt like that before...

Thanks, Lugana. The ring wasn't listed as metallic but it sure looks metallic to me. Someone else on here got one and hers looked more peachy-pink, I think, but larger. So if that's the one you ordered, it may be something of a grab bag!
