    My 1st Exotics

I'll post pics tonight of the finished necklaces, but I'm quite excited after having the pearls come back from the GIA Appraiser...especially because many of the pearls have an almost metallic sheen to them - my first pic above really doesn't do them justice. The 18-inch 7.5-8mm Exotic FWP...

    what are there? Any value?

is there a hallmark on the clasps? 14K, 18K, 925 or something like that? The pearls in the image on the right appear to be 2 x 4mm button pearls...do you know the sizes of the pearls?

New Member, New Inherited Pear Necklace!

No doubt...like $4,000.00!!! for a 17.5 inch 8.5mm white FWP necklace. I don't know whether to laugh or cry (especially if someone pays that price).

New Member, New Inherited Pear Necklace!

Ya i wouldn't buy from that eBay seller....simply for the fact that if you look at the ad and scroll down to where you see all the images of 'stars' wearing their jewelry, you can easily tell most of the images were photoshopped (the jewelry added onto the image after the fact)...and it's not...

    New to Jewelry Soldering

Ya i figured as much too - though I've rarely been the one to start with the easy projects first. Like re-drilling a pearl hole larger in a Tahitian...or drilling into an Akoya. Doesn't always work out the first time, but I do get lucky too :)

    New to Jewelry Soldering

Personally, I'd like to see soldering a clasp (or closed jump ring) to an unfinished chain with links too small to fit the ring through...so a chain-to-ring solder...as that would be most applicable to my initial attempts :) But anything would be absolutely appreciated.

The torch that was included in the kit is a "Blazer Piezo Electronic Torch", and is fueled with Butane gas. It seems quite convenient in size and easy to use. It has a starter button, gas control valve and air mixture valve, which with a very slight adjustment, allows you to easily get a nice...

    New to Jewelry Soldering

Okay thanks - quite awesome. At least I now know what to do after I've soldered...how well I do remains to be seen - LOL Oh and if anyone is interested in getting a jewelry soldering kit, I bought my kit from Lacy Tools (lacytools.ca) for $200 CDN, and it included the following; - Blazer...

    New to Jewelry Soldering

Alright so I've decided to get into more metalwork with my pearl designs...more specifically (to start off with), threading a thin chain through pearls. Obviously this will mean that at some point, I'll need to add a rings and clasps to either end of the chain...and i decided this was a good...

Tips for your online pearl business

The Absolute Basics of SEO - Content Part 1 The Absolute Basics of SEO - Content Part 1 It's been said before, not only on this forum but also many others, that the content of your web pages is the primary driver (or reason) for traffic (visitors) coming to your website. But what kind of...

$350- odd for 3 nasty "Tahitian" (FW) pearls on a gold plated chain, anyone?

OMG....that's UGLY no matter how I look at. Looks like a child attempted to make a fruitcake cookie...then mom and dad got all gushy over it and decided to have it bronzed.

Akoya overtone - rose vs silver-rose

no expert here...but my wife has tanned skin (as she is from Bangladesh). IMO and her's, a rose overtone suits her tanned skin very well. I'm sure you've noticed that the 'look' of the pearls appear a little different when you're wearing them, versus when they are in their box (for obvious...

    FW Descriptions

Also, the GIA's Graduate Pearl course includes pearl textbooks which do include some of the common "commercial" description names, along with a color-wheel and names.

    My 1st Exotics

No, not from Pearl Paradise...if they were, no doubt they'd be nicer. The pearls are from a Beijing supplier. :)

    My 1st Exotics

Sizes are 6.5-7mm and 7.5-8mm. They are destined for necklaces and bracelets. I also managed to pick up a bunch of loose (and not drilled) ranging in size from 6mm up to 10mm.

    My 1st Exotics

So these are my 1st exotics - just arrived a few minutes ago from Beijing...still gotta get the hand of a clearer image though - the colour quality is also better when image is viewed on a Mac (in my opinion)

    Are these real??

Just in case...I wouldn't junk old imitation pearls - from what I have seen, if you are able to determine the manufacturer, they could still be worth money to vintage collectors.
