    The designer's corner

Seeing so many Tahitian harvest strands on P-G, I was inspired to make my own, albeit a less expensive one. I took apart my short multicolor metallic necklace from PP and mixed it with two strands I also had on hand, 7mm metallic lavender drops and 9mm white baroque akoyas. Then I threw in a...

    The designer's corner

Hello, everyone. I've been beading and practicing my photography skills a lot these past few weeks. (And my sister-in-law was nice enough to pose for me). I want to share the the ones I like the most. Freshwater keshi with citrine nuggets Freshwater and akoya pearl lariat with an amethyst...

    Reliquary-inspired pearl earrings

I'm afraid, Pattye, that the style is nearly the same as my vintage reproduction, just smaller, more delicate, and older. (The antique lady says they're a century old, but I'll take that with a grain of salt.) As CathyKeshi suggested, the first set of earrings would be better if the filigree...

    Reliquary-inspired pearl earrings

Replicating these earrings have been on and off my mind these past few weeks. So today, after a discussion in the other pearl forum about Pattye's granulated settings for her SoC mabe pearls, I found a lady who buys and sells these antique filigree jewellery. Occassionally, she takes them...

Which Asian gem fairs are worth the trip?

Were you referring to your registration for this September fair? At which point did they ask for it? I've so far managed to activate a buyer account and go as far as the validation process , but other than a business address and a passport, they haven't asked for anything else.

    Fireballs

Last Disdain, the ones I photographed do have a faux orient! It had a metallic peach body color with a rose orient.( I'll post the photo once I find it. ) The effect was striking but a tad garish for those with more classic tastes.

    Fireballs

No matter how metallic, each (uncoated) fireball has unique flaws. I've never had to do a tooth test on one, but I agree with Isis Pearls. Coated pearls are too uniform in color and tone, and to the touch, feel rubbery. At least, you can wear yours in the water without fear! They've already got...

How to Plug a Drill Hole?

How do you affix the gemstone on holes and pits? Will a jewelry adhesive be durable to keep it in place?I'd hate to lose a diamond.

36.5 Strand White Metallics from PP

Beautiful! I wanted the same pearls, too, but I hemmed and hawed way too long. Good to know that you have them.

    Fireballs

Welcome to Pearl Guide! We can give you a definite answer once you post photos of the pearls. In the meantime, I'll venture that you have "coated pearls". Do they look like this? (Pardon the lack of sharpness. I took these on the sly.) Under the tab of Pearl Education, there is an article...

    Tahitian white pearls?

Gorgeous pieces, everyone! So I have this opera-length necklace that I bought a few months ago. The pearls are semi-baroque, intensely shiny, with a very strong silver overtone. The white has a greyish tinge to it, but not so much as to make it distinctly silver or light grey. All this time, I...

    Tahitian white pearls?

Browsing through eBay listings, I saw a merchant refer to three sets of loose pearls as "Tahitian silver pearls", "Tahitian white pearls", and "Australian south sea white pearls". Do Tahitian pearls come in white? In which case, isn't that just the same as white South Sea pearls?

    Stinky pearls--help!

Update: the smell has diminished, although it is still funky. I'm going to do as you advised and take a syringe of H202 to the drill holes.

    Stinky pearls--help!

Thanks for that thread, BrendaPC. I did use H202 last night, as Marianne suggested. (I didn't know I had to dilute it though.) It seems to have greatly diminished the stench, but I should check on it later, just to make sure.
