Need advices on an undecided Mabe pearl purchase

Never trust your brain :-) It knows only logic but logic doesn't bring you joy. I lost count many years ago of the number of times I've bought something because my brain was telling me it was a really good price - for something I didn't really need or want. If information about the quality or a...

Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

It isn't just men who like heftier clasps. I struggle to make my strands look less feminine.

    Should i get these tested?

Also, as far as I know 'appraisal' is the insurance value, not what you would get if you tried to sell it. Worth keeping in mind.

    New Tahiti keshi

I found two pictures from before I strung them that are a bit better. One shows the larger keshi as oval, that's just distortion :-) There is also tape on one of the pearls. It was due for removal because it was very dull. But overall I am impressed with how well matched a string of round-ish...

    New Tahiti keshi

Oh boy, these pictures are not sharp at all. But hopefully you get the idea... I bought two strands of Tahiti from Cees. It's the usual story, I asked about the tiny ones, there was an extra picture in the reply and now I have two strands... I have paired them with my tiny Akoya keshi that I use...

    New Freshadamas are 🤯🤯🤯

Wow. More than ever you really need to trust your dealer about what you are buying. I wonder how these will price as FW. Looks like more people will be able to afford mirror luster. Nad more people will think they are buying Akoya and they are not.

New arrival SSP should I keep?

"I’m just not super big fan of baroque shape :( should I keep?" Never. That is money spent on something you don't truly love which means you have less to spend on what you do truly love. Never buy anything that's 'good enough' or 'hey, it's a good deal' if you have any kind of choice.

Newbie - Need Some Guidance on Gold SS Pearl Purchase

The wonderful thing about pearls is they match by being pearls :-) I feel any pearl can go with any pearl. I actually prefer that they aren't too matchy matchy. If you check out the Show Us Your Pearls in Action thread you will see many examples of this. Pearl Paradise is absolutely...

Identity antique southseas Golden pearl necklace

i was thinking too that the holes, looking especailly at the ones over to the far right, look like they are bulging out which would make them faux.

What type of pearls are these?

You can tell be the 'eggy' shape.

    Vintage Mikimoto real/fake

That's a really cheap looking clasp and a poor knotting job. The clasp is about the only way you can claim Mikimoto origin and you still can't trust that because the clasp could be fake or the pearls swapped.

How to fix loose end of knot myself?

You will love being able to do it yourself! And once you've learned, you won't forget. It has sometimes been a couple of years between mine but it always comes back to me :-)

    Are these South Sea Pearls"

Some of the really long pearls makes it very clear. FW can be satiny too. It depends on the quality. It's not easy to find FW with sharp luster.

    Tahitians or FW

I'll give it a shot. The first image is so overly processed that I can barely look at it without squinting :-) Initial guess Tahitian but it's difficult to see much but a round shape and some dark colors. The second looks like the flat shape of FW. The third looks to me like poor quality...

Are these south sea pearls? thank you

If you paid $250 they could never be South Sea pearls, not at $600 either. It's easy to get fooled (more than me ended up on this site for that reason :-)) so it's always worth it to stop and leave. Then go back to the hotel and do even a little research such as checking out prices and colors...

Your colour preferences for Tahitians and why?

I want one so badly, have for years - but not so badly that I didn't buy a guitar instead for my 60th birthday. Maybe for my 70th? :-) I did make my Kamoka bracelet as ombre as I could.

Your colour preferences for Tahitians and why?

In most cases, Tahitians never look as colorful in real life as they do in the perfect light of the photos. The truly colorful ones are very expensive, as far as I know, so the price alone should give you a hint. There is no reason not to go for a medium colorful strand. It will look almost...

Your colour preferences for Tahitians and why?

My only strand of Tahitians is multi color. But how much of the color you can see depends wildly on the light. Being worn, it looks mostly like #4 but I bet you could make it look #1 with perfect lighting conditions. So keep that in mind. Matching to what I wear is not a problem since I wear...
