What's going on with these WSS?

I also recently read that Mikimoto is marketing it's blue mottled akoyas "Skilled Mikimoto artisans use a special technique to carefully apply multiple layers in creating the colorful mottled effect.". So my best guess is that others growers are fallowing that trend. I do like very much blue...

What's going on with these WSS?

I have inserted some photos. My guess is you are seeing an effect similar to the nacre substructure, see the example on the right. I have seen it in some of my blue japanese baroque akoya too. I will try to post some photos of that too.

    Lotus or mismatched pearls&box

    80' vs contemporany akoya pearls

Both necklace are of the same size5-5.5mm. I do know most people prefer bigger sized pearls but I do realy like the smaller sized ones :) maybe because bigger pearl necklaces (>9-9.5) look strange on me.

Hello, I would like to add a smaller size akoya necklace to my collection and looking I have found 2 options. 1. a lovely vintage akoya necklace from the 80' in an UK shop - sellers info: AAA , thick nacre, a shining luster and subtle rainbow overtones I would say they are AA+, good nacre &...
