    Real?? Please help

Great suggestion Pearl Dreams, I will do exactly that. I have a 10x loupe and some fake pearls I have from a long ago purchase (way before I could afford the real thing). This will be great to know the difference. I inherited a necklace from my grandmother that she told me was made of ivory...

Metallic Edison Peal Smash for Those Who Enjoy a Good Pearl Smash

This thread is fascinating, especially Eric's notice of the thin layer of metallic nacre and the need for special harvest timing. Thanks, I love learning this stuff! Linda

    Real?? Please help

Thank you Pearl Dreams for commenting on what observations you have that show they are imitation pearls. I have a LOT to learn and posts like yours are so helpful. I have started a document for myself to keep such postings and many other insightful comments in a single place to help me acquire...

Help! New pair of blue akoya pearls

I have so much to learn about pearls, and so many more mistakes to make on that path. The pair of blue akoyas arrived today. I’m not thrilled with them... one has two flaws, small ones, but considering what I paid I expected both to have really clean surfaces. I will take some pics tomorrow...

Share your Pearl Paradise Private Launch Purchases!

Hi Mtummybear, I bought the Rikitea pearls. It will take a while to get them here (I am in New York and PParadise has been very busy) but I will certainly post pictures when I have them. I do hope I will love them ... I have some other Rikitea pearls in earrings and they are really nice. Linda

Share your Pearl Paradise Private Launch Purchases!

I have found it frustrating because there doesn’t seem to be any consistency about what happens at various times and on other days. But then I think they may be going crazy busy because of the Valentine’s Day orders.

Ebay Seller Famous-Show cheats People: gorgeous 13-14mm south sea pearl bracelet

"Ebay knows there are tons of fakes on their site but they don't get involved because all they care about is their bottom line." I have to defend ebay here. Of course they care about their bottom line; they are a business. And we cannot expect them to police all of the millions of objects...

Help! New pair of blue akoya pearls

Hi everyone, I just purchased from an online seller, a pair of blue akoya pearls. I want to make them into stud earrings. But I don’t know how to do this! 🙄 The seller wants to know what size hole to drill? Is there a typical size used most in the U.S.? Then I need to find someone to add...

Luster: South Sea Pearls vs. Akoya

My local jeweler has a pair of (white) SS stud earrings that I am interested in. They are each around 10.5 mm. My concern here is that they don't seem to have much luster. I have several white akoya pearls that have better luster than the SS ones, and a pair of metallic freshwater pearls...

    I want a strand longer than 18"...

I asked a seller about a 22 inch strand of blue akoyas. He has them available up to 24 inches but they are the baroque pearls. He did tell me that the hanadamas in blue akoya are certified at only 18", and that if pearls were added to that strand, it would not be considered certified for later...

Is this golden south sea pearl necklace a good buy?

I think Macy's is overpriced for pearls. I did buy some there recently, but that was at 60% off from a store they were closing. You can get higher quality elsewhere for a similar price.

    Southsea Pearl vs Edison Pearls

I love white SS pearls but I could never afford a strand. I have one SS pearl pendant which is beautiful. But I wanted a strand of large white pearls, so I bought Edisons. To me they are very beautiful. I love being able to have a necklace of large pearls; I never did want a dainty strand of...
