    Silver/goldsmithing

Thanks Pearlgully! I've actually been calling it Ganoskin all this time and never even realized when I was on the website that it was Ganoksin. That's going to take getting used to. :D Have to second that, that's what I use more so than the articles. Orchid's great for everything really...

    Silver/goldsmithing

I'm a very new poster to the forum so I was going to stay quiet but wanted to jump in after these past few posts. I'm pretty sure Pearlescence meants that he must have been chosen to teach for a reason, either because of technical expertise or teaching experience. You haven't stated outright...

    Silver/goldsmithing

That's really odd, I hadn't heard that it's that difficult to set stones before. I've done it myself using these special ones called Snap-It or Snap-Eze from Rio Grande that make it very simple but I'm sure that the average gold/silversmith can set stones without a specialist. The jeweler my...

    Antique 10-strand seed pearl bracelet

That's gorgeous! It looks even better on than it did in the Ruby Lane photos.

    Silver/goldsmithing

I've just signed up for a silversmithing class as well  It starts in two weeks. I've done a tiny bit of metalsmithing before but it was a few years ago. I can't wait to be able to actually solder the ends of my chains and make my own rings and bracelets!

    What's a Concho River pearl?

Even stranger, Dian Teague, the woman whose son finds the pearls with his feet says in the article, "These Concho pearls are the only naturally colored freshwater pearls in the world. These pearls are purple, lavender, pink and green. We knew there was a market for these pearls."

    Scottish Pearls

The thread on Croatian river pearls has a little bit on Scottish river pearls, and the excerpt from Strack got me wondering where I could see some (I'm in Edinburgh). I know the Scottish Crown jewels have natural pearls and you can see them at Edinburgh Castle, but I couldn't find any close-ups...

    Kojima pearls

I think Sarah has just been traveling or dealing with some business. I sent an email to her a while back about buying and I heard back on Thursday. So don't give up if you haven't heard back, she's definitely around.

    Favorite Pearl Single Strand Clasp?

Now I get it! I kept picturing the head as a two part clasp that came apart somewhere. It's amazing to think how long it's survived.

Alternatives to eBay for selling pearls

Do you have ads on craftster.org? I think I might have seen an ad that looks like your avatar. I think Etsy would be a good start for you, a lot of the people who are browsing/buying are looking for craft supplies. I think part of the problem might be your photos. If I didn't know you...

    Favorite Pearl Single Strand Clasp?

I'm completely stumped. I want to say that maybe there's a little device that comes out from Horus' neck and snaps in to keep the necklace in place (kind of the way you use a bead cone to hide all the different strands of a necklace), but that seem very efficient (or likely :D)

Alternatives to eBay for selling pearls

A great website if you're looking to start a business is www.theswitchboards.com/forum If you're looking for other internet outlets to sell, there's dawanda.com which is pretty much a European version of Etsy. There's also bigcartel.com which hosts your site for you and has some pre-designed...

    Favorite Pearl Single Strand Clasp?

London's not too bad either :p I love the Edinburgh summers too (it's fun having the sun set so late) but the Edinburgh winters get me down sometimes, it's hard to get used to the sun setting at 4! What brought you to Edinburgh? Was it pearl related? Definitely! I had a lot of fun lurking...

    Favorite Pearl Single Strand Clasp?

Mesopotamia then? I haven't quite gotten to making my profile yet :o. I'm an American living in Edinburgh, Scotland. I saw some nice pearl jewelry in a catalog and I wanted to do some research before spending money and found P-G through google. I got hooked pretty quickly and I didn't end...

    Favorite Pearl Single Strand Clasp?

I've never seen them with pearls either come to think of it, only on bracelets with stones. That picture's really interesting. Where's it from? It looks kind of like the carving's on totem poles in the American northwest and Alaska

A lot, if not most, of metal women's watches also have fold over clasps, if that helps

    Pearl shopping in NYC

I like Majestic which has been mentioned a few times on the forum. They're on the 2nd floor at 65 W.36th. They deal with just freshwater although one time I went they had a small bag of low-luster akoya. I'm hoping to post some jewelery I've made with Majestic merch so you can see what sort...

    More of my Favourites

Sueki, I've never lusted after piece of jewelry as much as that first necklace! I never realized how gorgeous Sea of Cortez pearls were. You've just started an obsession for me (I spent most of the night going through Sea of Cortez posts).
