    help me decide

That worked out perfectly then, as I think it's the nicest of the two on you. It's a beautiful silvery-blue on you. The top is a little too creamy. I think you'd suit a more silvery-white version better.

    South sea string- worth it?

That seems like too little money to spend on a WSS strand that is near round, relatively clean, and in that size. For that reason alone I would be wondering if they might be exceedingly large FWP. The price would still be good even if they were FWP. But I am not familiar at all with prices...

Metallic ripples with orient - what to do with them?

I LOVE the multi one. Just the way that it is.

Please help me decide which strand to keep!!!!

I'm sorry. Poor choice of wording on my part. The pearls themselves do NOT look like freshwaters. It's just the more silvery colour that I tend to associate with freshwater pearls, because in my mind's eye, akoyas are pinked. I think both strands are gorgeous, and with repeat viewings, I...

    Advice for first-time buyer

No, I've never paid duty (and I've ordered way more than I'm willing to admit). Just GST/PST plus brokerage. Maybe customs on the ground is less detail oriented than those charged with advising about the regulations on the phone. Come back and post pictures of what you buy! I don't think...

Please help me decide which strand to keep!!!!

I still think the pink has slightly higher luster, but I agree that the silver pops more against your skin.

    Advice for first-time buyer

I forgot to say, if I was doing it again, I'd go bigger. I'd get the biggest, but still absolute best quality pearls that I could afford. I would not sacrifice quality for size.

    Advice for first-time buyer

Jeff, I'm Canadian too. Import fees are just your provincial sales tax plus brokerage ($20 for FedEx which is how most vendors ship higher priced items). You can apply for a refund of the duty if you return items too. The form is on the government website. I have an AAA strand from...

Please help me decide which strand to keep!!!!

It's a tough choice. I think the rose ones have slightly higher luster. And they go well with your skin tone (they're a bit more subtle and look 'real' so to speak). The silvers look a bit more like freshwater to me even though they're not (I love pinked Akoya though), BUT the luster is good...

I personally love #1 because I love cool silvery blues, but I think #3 is what you are looking for with the gold overtones (and it is gorgeous!).

    Dyed Pearls - Opinions?

I think sometimes it's the intention behind it too. Many dyed FWP's are marketed as Tahitians and GSS just so that they will be perceived as more valuable. And people will by them thinking that they got something for an unbelievable price when really they just got scammed. That doesn't feel...

How can you tell WSSP from FWP?

I haven't seen WSS's with as high a luster as the ones from PP. I was lucky enough to get a high luster oval strand during the WSS sale. My strand and earrings outshine my metallic FWPs and are on par with my AAA Akoyas. Other WSSs I have seen are much more satin. IRL FWPs have a slightly...

How can you tell WSSP from FWP?

I find the colour of the white can be a bit of a cue too. FWP white is often a tiny bit more yellow or cream based than WSS which are more pure white, blue white, or silver white (even when they have a rose overtone). It's subtle though and more noticeable when they are next to each other...

    September Pearl Paradise Tahitians

Thank you! I love that color of teal! I matched the outfit to the pearls of course! JP, yes, this was 3 18-inch graduated strands that were all listed under the same item number. When I picked it I thought there was just one, so I had picked out two multicolor strands along with it to put...

    September Pearl Paradise Tahitians

Oh, no worries! I knew that's what you meant! That was a bizarre experience! I'm actually due to go to another of DH'S work events in a couple of weeks...and guess what I'm going to wear? :p. Only maybe with my WSS strand this time as it's a slightly fancier party. Let's hope I'm 'ironic'...

    September Pearl Paradise Tahitians

Newberry, that was my thought when I was debating how best to have them strung. Through the influence of the boards I've come to realize the importance of flexibility, and this way I realized I could wear it long, short, nested, or staggered any which way I wanted, and I wouldn't have to worry...
