What causes jet black patches in SSPs?

I can't comment on the black spots, but I do think your bracelet will look very different and cool. Will you string them next to one another as shown, or spread out? I like them next to one another; looks like it will just rest across the top of the wrist.

    Y necklace questions

I like Valeria's suggestion. Not only does it allow you to adjust the length of the drop piece, but using this connection you could also turn the necklace so the drop is in the back. This could be quite attractive if you have short hair or are wearing your hair up.

Did you get/give pearls for Valentine's Day?

Great planning!! That was a wonderful idea and truly came from the heart. I'm glad your hard work paid off.

How often do you wear pearls?

I wear pearls once or twice a week. It really just depends on what clothing I am wearing and what I am doing each day.

Mine the Gold and Kill the Salmon?

My thought exactly on the "knowingly" comment. This will be something interesting to watch. Thanks for the link.

    Pearls arriving today...

I have gone back and forth on the length issue too. Sometimes I think 16" is too short and 18" is too long. The happy compromise is purchasing 18" and having it strung to 17". This way I can go anywhere between 16" and 18" as needed. As for the blemishes, why don't you call PP and let them...

    I cannot decide!!! Help!

I think when trying to compare two different, yet similar items it is acceptable to order both knowing you are going to return one. It is in an effort to ensure you truly get what you are looking for - quality and look. Ordering the same red shirt made by the same manufacturer from two...

    Majoricas & Mikis

I recently tried on a strand of Mikimoto pearls at a Miki shop. I did not find them to be nearly as blemished as you. I would guess they were A or A+ based on the price ($3,000 USD, 7-7.5, 16"), but I did not ask. They were quite striking and I would certainly not feel sorry for anyone owning...

Can you see the orient in this?

Very pretty Nerida. Its amazing how pearls vary. I love seeing the pictures.

Freshwater pearls are better then Akoya pearls?

Knowing the differences it is hard to pick one over the other. It seems there are far more advantages to purchasing freshwaters, but there are too many comments on the look of high quality Akoyas to count them out all together. Because of the price difference, I would suggest starting with...

    Lavender pearls for wedding?

The shine on the ribbon and shine on lavender pearls may compliment each other nicely, too. I see more of a shine in colored pearls than in white. After seeing the dress, I think either color will work well. Its a very beautiful dress and I'm sure no matter what you choose it will be just...

    Pearl Paradise and Freshadamas

Valeria - I love the look of the necklace you showed. I never thought about mixing pearls like that, but it makes a very nice and interesting look. Is a mystery clasp something that can be used with any pearl type/quality? Will drilling a larger hole in an Akoya increase the speed at which...

    Pearl Paradise and Freshadamas

I had inquired about some lengthening alternatives and one mentioned was a mystery clasp, but I understood it to be a bad idea. The pearls used to make the clasp would be of no use other than as part of the clasp and it was also mentioned that future clasps would be out of the question. I'm...

    Lavender pearls for wedding?

You should definitely try the pearls with your dress. When I got married, I picked out a pair of earrings I wanted to wear and then decided it was just not right. I decided to stick with my diamond studs and was very happy with my decision. Also, consider your flowers and bridesmaid dresses...

    Bodycolor and Overtone

I'm fair skinned with some yellow undertones. I also tan very well and this can change the way things look on me, but all my jewelry still looks good. I think pinks go best with my skin, but I can pull off most things. I think it is important to go with your gut in these situations, in this...

Feedback - are colored strands of pearls practical?

Hi Jody, If you are still unsure what colors suit you best you could go to some department stores and try some on. I find I always need to try things on to really know what I like best. Also, for me, my skin tans very easily. I am rather fair skinned when not exposed to the sun, but hold a...

I have a cough, cough, diamond, cough question!

I don't know if a seller would be offended, but I would think they would want to make the sale. It wouldn't hurt to ask. If I were the consumer, I would be hesitant to make a large purchase without some type of confirmation of what I was buying or money back guarantee - especially if I was...

    Using a Loupe on Pearls

Danachit - can you let us know the make/model you select and how you like it? I'd be interested in purchasing one too. I'm sure others also find this thread interesting. Thanks!

    Bodycolor and Overtone

I suggest you go to local stores and try on some different strands with different colors and overtones. That way you will get what you like best. You could also order multiple strands from PP and try them on with your wedding dress to ensure you get what you like best.

    Pearl Paradise and Freshadamas

I suggest going to a local jewelry store and looking at their selection. I use to work at a Mom and Pop type place and there were tons of books to look though. It was pretty common for people to come in looking for something specific and find it in one of the books. And if you chose something...
