    Thank you for the comments everyone. I unfortunately didn't make this piece, my co-worker did. I just manage the office/workshop and have input in the design. Its a long necklace about 23". And yes those are little pearls in between the faceted rondelles. Its made for the companys retail website.

    The picture confirms its a plastic. Most likely bakelite. Unfortunately the bakelite craze is over, but it is still worth more than regular plastic.

    The appraisal value seems to be appropriate for a local retail market, a little higher than what I wouldve valued the pearls at. But its dependant on the market level selected. In your case if your paying for the insurance and want a lower value, you may want to have a local appraiser value them...

    You are thinking of cone snails. Of which the textile cone snails are the very toxic variety. Currently they are being utilized in the medical field to attempt to synthesis stronger painkillers. Conchs can't kill you.

    I would just make it. I dont think any suppliers carry it that I know of. You can just buy a bezel or make one, solder a cross bar inside the bezel, put some square wire in a vice and twist it with pliers. Alternatively I guess you could buy a bezel earring with a screw back post, it might work...

    I just use jewellers epoxy. I think the trick is to drill a hole deep in the pearl and use a twisted wire post attached to the bezel.
