Persian Gulf Pearls and Authentic Certificates

I think you will find that the cultured pearls are only allowed into Bahrain during Jewellery Arabia because they have to be otherwise it could not be regarded as an "international" jewellery show covering all aspects of the trade. The cultured pearls are limited though. Only mounted in items...

pearl diving research - need help!

You can also search the web using Google etc.. for pearls + diving or other combinations and find all manner of information such as this: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/the-pearls-of-bahrain/article452048/ Of course it might not all be accurate, but it can help. On the subject of the...

Valuation of Double Strand of Natural Pearls

You could also contact Mr KC Bell in the USA who is a pearl dealer/collector for any advice. Please see the contact details for him in this pdf (towards the end). Had to search for his e-mail on the www as I didn't have it at hand and only know him a little. Perhaps others here know him better...

    Tom Stern's natural pearls

Hi Dr. Stern (Tom) - I agree that there are a few inaccuracies in that story. The reference to Raman for instance should surely refer to X-radiography/microradiography. It is also not a Raman 'electron' microscope. Quite interesting nonetheless. Thanks for posting it.

    The Zanzibar Mabe initiative

Interesting link and project. Thanks for pointing it out. Do you know the mollusc used and what they are using as nuclei? I presume the nuclei are saltwater fashioned from local molluscs too?

    Freshwater vs Tahitian

The one with the clasp/lock probably. It has typical surface indentations more likely seen in saltwater pearls. The freshwater ones are very clean. That's my opinion anyway.

    Maybe it's the natural pearl.

I would agree with Sarah and doubt the 'natural' origin of the center pearl and the two smaller pearls either side. They look like freshwater non-bead cultured pearls from the images. Of course handling the pearls is another matter altogether, so if you want to be 100% sure you need to get them...

    Are Indian "natural" pearls natural?

Real and natural are the same as far as I am aware. There should be no difference beteen natural saltwater and natural freshwater in terms of this description. Pearls are either natural, bead cultured or non-bead cultured. Of course there are also imitation and mabe type pearls (composite). Then...

    Nautilus pearl

Hi Caitlin - I thought that the link in my post would have been enough to answer your question, but since you ask here is another link that will probably answer it better than I could: http://www.git.or.th/conference/home.html Is that better? Hope it helps.

    Nautilus pearl

Good close-up shots showing flame-like porcelaneous structure. No nacreous structure there it would appear. Followers of the Nautilus topic may be interested in the following: http://www.git.or.th/conference/news.html# Click on - Opening Ceremony and Technical Programs (Updated...

Natural Pearls (?) in Vintage Jewelry

Hello Marcus - I know little about metal/jewellery, but have a little knowledge about pearls, so to answer your original query; they look like natural pearls to me. Of course to be sure you would need to submit them to microradiography (X-rays). Whilst the ring might allow this without removing...
