How do you care for your freshwater pearls?

You've certainly done a lovely job of lining and finishing the drawers, it looks great. And the pearls are lovely too, I think I can see the baroque freshwaters featured in another thread, worn as three together in graduating lengths. That picture gave me the confidence to order a strand from PP.

How do you care for your freshwater pearls?

Sueki I love that little cabinet, I must get myself along to Rymans this week, thank you so much for the picture. It was good to get the reassurance about pearl 'wear'. I've read a great deal about how fragile pearls are that I've worked myself into a state of confusion, but I feel better now.

How do you care for your freshwater pearls?

Little silk pouches are a really practical option but having tried it, I'm worried about the pearls scratching each other - they knock together as you remove them/replace them in the pouch and I'm concerned all that rubbing around will eventually dull them. I've mostly gone back to their...

    Anyone bought from pearllunar?

Sueki, I couldn't agree more. I've got into the habit of ordering the next size up, too. Although this has led to an increasing preoccupation with larger pearls! Yes, your pearls are certainly much better than those in the shops. I was in Brighton today and I handled a 10.5mm strand which I...

    Anyone bought from pearllunar?

Hi Sueki, Thank you very much for the measurements, that's extremely helpful. I spoke to my jeweller today and he said that sellers should supposedly advertise the width measurement (not the longest side, when they are off-round) and state those measurements, but I suspect most Chinese sellers...

    Anyone bought from pearllunar?

Sueki, they're beautiful. Would you mind telling me what sizes they are please? I'm slightly fixated about sizes. Whenever I order pearls I normally get at least half a mm less, which is visually quite a lot. This seems to be more or less across the board, aside from Pearl Paradise and one...

Chinese Freshwater vs. Tahitian: A new threat?

Hi Valeria, Yes, that's exactly what I've been told, good pearls of that size would not be dyed, only the poorer quality ones would be given that treatment. I would have to compromise size over quality. It will be interesting to see what turns up in the post on Monday. They are described as...

Chinese Freshwater vs. Tahitian: A new threat?

I have found this thread absolutely fascinating. In my recent quest for a 'good' 9-10mm or 10-11mm freshwater black strand, I have seen many interesting dye jobs and I do agree they are getting close to 'Tahitian black'. But none of the pearls I have yet seen have been of sufficiently good...

Size of Black Freshwater Pearls - and Lustre

PearlStruck - thank you so much for the response, that has explained a great deal. I do need to lower my expectations in terms of finding an 'acceptable' large black strand, and I feel more relaxed about that after reading your post. Even in the 9-10mm size I have seen, the pearl quality...

Size of Black Freshwater Pearls - and Lustre

Hi Everybody, I've really enjoyed reading the forum over the last few weeks. I started buying pearls a few months ago, and I was relieved to see some of my chosen suppliers posting on this site. Despite absorbing so much valuable information, I would still appreciate some clarification on a...

What she wanted for Christmas, but didn't get

Slraep - I could not agree more and I applaud you for standing up for yourself. I find Christmas so stressful that I have now decided that the money I put aside each year for presents will be donated to a leading cancer charity instead. The people I am expected to buy for have so much, and...
