Sorry I took a while to respond Purranha. These necklaces are fantastic, I can see why you would have been inspired. The texture/shine/opacity difference adds contrast between the two. Well done on your inspired necklace.

Here's another in a black round Tahitian pearl. The surface is very hard and sort of mirror like. The colored spots on the OP's pearls look like colored lights reflecting on the surface. Ebay is a hot bed of fake pearls. Prepare to be fleeced.

Here are some lower grade Tahitians I just received yesterday. Look at the color difference between the pearls and the shine pattern.

Agree with dyed freshwater. One of the give-away signs is the one-tone flat color. Looks like they were dipped in wax. Most low quality dyed pearls have that odd monotone waxed look. If you flip through the "Show us your pearls in action" thread, you will see quite a few of Tahitian strands...

My copy plans are underway. Ordered a set of pearls for black and white Tahitians from Jac at The Pearl House. 11mm AA dark mix and light mix with a note to please match for black and white earrings. I think these will do well :) The black has a pit on the side, but I don't think will be too...

Oh, this rope is wonderful. I love the "storm" Beader's secret color with Tahitians. It shows off the pearl colors. The size is dainty and perfect on you!
