Icyjade, those are some spectacular pearls you posted! I love the color. Those two loose drops are truly gorgeous and very bright. Look at those rainbows - the graduation of color on each pearl! :) For the lighter strand below, the more pastel colored one. It is really lovely as well, nice and...

    Mangareva Beauties

I will post another thread with a picture of a group of very brightly colored pearls, stronger colored than anything else I have ever seen! They look kind of unnatural they are so bright. They are grown in the Tuamotus, the atoll group North of Tahiti, and the producer promises me that they are...

    Mangareva Beauties

Hello Cliclasp, the Gambiers are certainly remote and further away from say, the Tuamotus, where Tahitian pearls are also cultured. They are a more isolated archipelago of islands, a relatively long plane ride away (4.5 hours from Tahiti, with a stop), further South, by the Tropic of Capricorn...

    Please comment on my pearls

To me they look like off-round Akoya (saltwater). I notice a sharp luster profile, and when I looked very closely, small streaks that appear "marine" to me, if that makes sense. But that's just my opinion from the photos, I'd have to see them in person to really tell. I agree that the oval...

Natural Pearl Necklace Sells for World Auction Record $5.1 Million

Yes, I would agree Pattye. It makes sense to me that they see some of those pearls over and over, in different configurations. This has been one of my favorite posts on PG yet. So much to learn - thanks to everyone!

    Deep Peacock's 'little cousin'

Hi Jersey, that tear drop on the left measures 11.5mm wide and 16.3mm long. The wider darker drop just top right of center, with the other ones, measures 13.75mm wide and 16.3mm long.

    Deep Peacock's 'little cousin'

Hello everbody, I thought you might enjoy a picture of the "little cousins" of the Deep Peacock pearls I posted last time here on the Tahitian forum. Not quite as 'deep' in my opinion, but still stunners, wouldn't you say?

Natural Pearl Necklace Sells for World Auction Record $5.1 Million

Afraid not, the title of the article is misleading and tripped me up as well. I think they are naturally colored cultured pearls. They are talking about (quote) "having no indications of artificial color modification" in the article.

Natural Pearl Necklace Sells for World Auction Record $5.1 Million

Yes, natural colored! Regardless, it's still pretty nice, wouldn't you say? :)

    Mangareva Beauties

I'll show you a picture of this pearl's 'younger cousin' here on the Tahitian PG forum soon. A bit lighter version in color, but still very peacock/green with the pinks, the greens, and even blues. Stay tuned!

    Mangareva Beauties

It's a really enchanting pearl type. I call it very high quality 'Deep Peacock.' Maybe other pearly people here have some other ideas on what to call this very strong purple-green coloration?
