Newbie, knotting techniques and thread choice

Hi, yes, a lot of us would use a double strand, knotted at one end. This post will most likely be moved to the Lowly Beaders. Happy knotting! Dana

Stud earrings-what am i doing wrong!

I use the two part expoxy too, but only the longest setting one....some are up to 24 hours. The longer it takes to set, the stronger the glue. And I agree that you'll find a much better hold with a peg that goes inside the pearl than a flat back. Did you know you can purchase 14K. gold pegs...

    Who buys the best?

Ha! My take exactly! Daddy Tom might want to do an inventory juuuust in case. :p Welcome younger Tom. Did the pearl bug bite you or the potential to make money bug bite you? ;) I hope it's the pearl bug....that way you'll have your own wonderful collection that you'll never want to part...

Which one looks purdier..AAA or freshadama?

I know this has been discussed out the wazoooo...but I can't seem to find any threads. I have a hankerin' for a strand of nice pearls. Been stringing for seven years but never bought some for myself. SO...I'm looking at freshadamas OR AAA freshwaters. When these are placed side by side...

    Freshwater Wish List

I'm lusting after a big fat multi-colored strand of freshadamas. I especially love the ones that include some black pearls with the gold, lavender, white and peach. I just want some that are big and expensive. (indicative of my age. The older you get, the larger the pearls, I've noticed...

    Elusive Loop technique

I agree Knotty. But I keep coming up with pearl restringing jobs where the larks head knot is what is on the clasp loop. Again and again and AGAIN I come across this technique. I have no problem re-doing the strand with the gimp, but if the person prefers it redone exactly as is, then I need...

    Elusive Loop technique

How would I pass the needle AND those two loose ends through a pearl? I can see that if I had this GINORMOUS hole in the pearls....but that would mess with forming a proper knot and keeping it in place, right?

    Elusive Loop technique

But where is the knot, attaching the two ends of the silk, going to end up?

    Elusive Loop technique

Okay, I give up. I have had several necklaces that needed restringing and the original knotter attached the clasp not with gimp, but with the silk directly attached to the clasp....a larkshead knot. I understand the concept behind this 'knot'. You make a loop, push the whole loop up through...
