    Black Opal Dilemma

Hi Steve: Yes--I had thought about those too. These would have to be very small--maybe even two mm or less--could even be buttons. I do not know if such small ones would even be available. I will post a drawing of the design below. The pearls would be used as the small beads or "berries"...

    Black Opal Dilemma

We finally are close to a final design. After I discuss it with the designer/goldsmith who will make the piece, which will include the opal, bezel set, with a turning mechanism in a reflective dish, I will post a preliminary sketch. A quick question. In the current rendering, the designer has...

long term project: my "garden" necklace

Hi Purlgurl, Bernadette, Heidi, Blaire, and Newberry--and thank you! It was fun collecting the gemmies and pearls--started years ago with a very vague idea and then became a more specific concept about two years ago when I found the first cross drilled stalactite. I finished Spring on the...

Thanks Pearl Dreams! Also, thanks to you for that wonderful tutorial on making clasps. I learned so much from that. It gave me the basic tools and concepts to make clasps--and the courage to try it. Beth

long term project: my "garden" necklace

Thanks to all for the kind words! An update. One necklace became two--Spring and summer. Spring is finished but summer is still in process. Spring was especially difficult to photograph--the colors seem duller in the photos. I fabricated the clasps for Spring, and plan to do the same with...

    Fijian Pearls

What a coincidence--we will be in Peru--Machu Picchu and surrounding areas in late April. Assuming that area is repaired and reopened after the flood damage. No pearls found where we are going! Some interesting gemstones are found in some areas of Peru-- not that the mines are open to the public.

    new pieces

Hi Patricia and thanks. I have been lusting after your amazing abalones--awesome. Some times I knot, and sometimes not.:) For example, I did knot the SS pearl strand but not the keshi pearls or the pearls that are intermixed with other gemstones. My concerns have been that the potentially...

    Headpin off-cuts

I do not have experience in this, but I understand that creative jewelers can use this for forging. For example see: http://reviews.ebay.com/GOLD-REFINING-YOUR-OWN-SCRAP-IN-HOME-STUDIOS_W0QQugidZ10000000003656580 This might be for personal or display since it would be difficult to certify the...

    first EVER pearl purchase

I also have the metallics, and they are really beautiful. I think that a call to PP for assistance in selecting a strand with colors that you would especially like could be helpful. Good luck.
