    Thrifted Silver Chain with Pearls

Found more genuine pearl jewelry at the thrift store today! I will say, I think the workers have gotten wise to pearls recently however; they had three multi-strand Keshi pearl necklaces for $400 each! There goes my thrifty pearl prices… This one was still only $7 though!

Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

My new (used) favorite strand! Found at a thrift store for $50, it’s one of my more expensive strands. But so pretty that it’s worth it to me!! Been wearing it almost daily.

    Newly thrifted ring

I loved the pink and gold as well! I’ve been considering buying a testing kit, but as long as I’m paying thrift store prices and I wear what I buy it doesn’t matter that much to me if it’s gold or silver or something else. As long as the pearl is genuine! Which, this one is! Passed the tooth test.

    Newly thrifted ring

I love that the cut part of the pearl is visible underneath!! Shows that it’s pink all the way through. Surface of the pearl is a kind of “matte” texture. Ring is stamped 925.

    Pearls and Cosmetics

I thought this post was going to be about something completely different…the use of pearls in cosmetics. I saw a beauty brand today that advertised “pearl essence” in their cosmetics. Not sure what the benefit of this would be…making your skin iridescent? 🤷🏽‍♀️ Anyways, I also wear my pearls...

    Abalone “pearls”

Could these be abalone pearls? I use this shell as a catch all for my random crystals and have about 30 or more shells in my backyard and around my house. Now that I’m learning a LOT more about pearls, I’m curious if these could be abalone “mabe” pearls.

Do these appear to be genuine Tahitian?

Wow so pretty!! I’m definitely saving up for a nice strand from a reputable company. Returned the strand that started this post.

Do these appear to be genuine Tahitian?

Thanks for the advice! I will be sure to ask. How do you feel about this strand? I found a company selling these "loose" strands and I'm considering purchasing one as they're cheaper and then I can practice knotting the pearls myself. They also sell "golden south sea pearls" in loose...

    Differentiate saltwater from freshwater pearls

That first white strand is the only one with a sterling silver clasp (besides the white and turquoise strand). Here’s a close up of the second picture, middle strand. I can’t see a bead, but then again I might not recognize it even if there is one! That first white strand is the only one with...

    Differentiate saltwater from freshwater pearls

The only markings on the white and turquoise strand is “925” on the clasp. I just love all the different shapes of that strand! I have yet to see a South Sea pearl in person, but I’d likely do the same thing!

    Differentiate saltwater from freshwater pearls

I love this! I guess they would taste saltier? 😂 Going through the course, I’m amazed at the advances in pearl culturing in such a short amount of time! The “new freshwater” section is what really got me questioning how do you tell the difference anymore?

    Differentiate saltwater from freshwater pearls

Thank you for your advice! I’m beginning to understand there’s no easy answer to my question and more experience will be my best bet. I’m trying to solve this question as I’m going through the strands of pearls I’ve purchased at thrift stores. I want to say most of these are saltwater, (except...

    Differentiate saltwater from freshwater pearls

Thank you for the feedback. What I want to know is how to visually tell the difference between fresh/salt water pearls when I'm looking at pearl jewelry. I believe you responded to my post about potential Tahitian pearl strand necklaces and confirmed they were dyed freshwater pearls and I'm...
