If they asked big money then I'd consider asking GIA for a certificate. I don't think they cost that much , when I get Hanadama certified it's like 50$ at the Japanese lab. Either way for your peace of mind and resale ( should you ever decide to sell them) it's reassuring .

You might ask Wendy at Pearlescence if she has some she could sell you. Also, on stringing tiny pearls. I use those tiny little bead bumpers about every 5 th pearl. That way if it breaks you won't lose everything.

Douglas - do you know what causes the Blue Akoya to often have a mottled surface? It appears on a lot of the Blues I've seen and there is a pale beige sort of under colour ? And do they actually know why they are blue ? Is it due to a bacterial infection or such creating debris in the layers ?
